These answers have got me thinking. The Assembly and the Scottish Parliament (If Scotland remains part of the UK) want to have a similar set-up to NI for rail, that is state owned company running the services. If the DfT try and object to that both can point to the example of NI as precedent...
I am wondering why are the railways in NI not privately run and are run by the state? Shouldn't the Railways act have privatised it seeing as NI>part of UK
As a regular user for the valley lines I would much prefer it that we didn't get a 1-1 replacement for the existing pacer/sprinter fleet and got a bit more capacity in the form of 3 coach units. Besides, 2 car AC EMU units are the exception not the norm
Porth in ten years time?
Some brightening up of the station with a new footbridge, benches and ticket office. Services consisting of class 315's in three car formation refurbished to have a toilet installed, I expect much hemming and hawing by the assembly over wether to get new units or not...
I have been a regular user of Trefforest Estate station over the past few years and it does technically have seats via a metal bar built into the shelter. Generally there is only enough room for one person to sit down and the station has had increased numbers because of the college campus on the...
An interesting note it seems the Valley's 150 units are being repainted into the new ATW livery as I was on one yesterday on the way to Cardiff. Presumably the entire fleet is being done when the individual units go in for a fresh coat of paint?
Government control is the plan of Labour and Plaid in the assembly. Although the two differ in the respect of Plaid wanting outright nationalisation and Labour preferring a Scotrail style setup.
Now Plaid might want nationalisation but they cannot get it as the Railway Act 1993 makes it a...
From what I have heard 315's are going to be temporary similar to the class 308? where for WYPTE with new build units expected in the 2020's. In regards to Pontypridd I use the stations most weekdays and in my opinion the platform opposite no1 should be re-instated as platform 3 as it would be...
If only the government did not do a U-Turn on closing the hope valley, The Woodhead would still be open today albeit as a 25kv line or more likely de-electrified.
Has there ever been a case where there has been a person called inspector sands being caught out by the announcement, say a police officer called joe sands (no offense if there is actually a person by this name!). Just a thought I had?
This idea is stupid. It is obvious that the local MP there does not know about a little thing called the Woodead route. where we have not one but three tunnels under the pennines, only problem being the "new" 1952 tunnel now has cables running through it for the national grid.
Complete and utter chaos as other operators now have precedent to go if they lose a franchise, just start a petition and throw toys out of the pram:roll:
on the other hand DOR would presumably be a caretaker operator so both the East Coast and West Coast mainlines would be back in public...
I wonder if it's possible if the IEP is delayed they could jury rig the 91's. no realistic chance I know but it would be good to see them actually run at 225 MPH
