Hmmm, 48 ish minutes Cambridge to KGX (non-stop service) 60 ish minutes Cambridge to FPK (Brighton service). If it all goes to plan, a split/attachment is not taking 12 minutes. Added to that, the hour on the Brighton Service only gets you to Finsbury Park as opposed to KGX or St. Pancras.

Whilst I agree that skip stopping is done to make up time I think sometimes it's about not making the Train any later. The Train would very likely continue to lose time if it stopped at all of its booked stations. Yes, as humans we tend to be very detached from things not in our scope of view...
