Report of collision Bedford (Elstow) - 19/06/26

Largely irrelevant at the 810 hadn’t cleared enough sections for a double yellow to show. Had the 810 come to a stand at the next signal instead, or TPWS was fitted, I’m sure this incident wouldn’t have happened.

Report of collision Bedford (Elstow) - 19/06/26

Still a lot of unanswered questions. What about the signallers role? Were they aware? Was an emergency stop message sent?

Following the Bedford incident, should TPWS - or something providing an equivalent level of protection - be fitted to all remaining unfitted signals?

That’s the risk which you crossover. You focus attention on the crossover speed, forget the previous signal was a single yellow and just power up once you know you’ve cleared the crossovers. That’s why TPWS should be installed at signals following a crossover. Add to that, he’d probably done...

Report of collision Bedford (Elstow) - 19/06/26

I think a SPAD was pretty much what we all expected. The question remains, and hopefully the investigation determines, why he didn’t see or react to the red signal.

GWR Cornish Night Riviera Sleeper and GWR Class 57 updates from Long Rock

It’s not at the expense of passenger services. Just unfortunate timing for a failure to occur. It could be a simple repair on both locos and they’d be operational again tomorrow. That costs money. I think 57301 will be sent from Reading to Highbridge to collect the failed set in the early...

    Class 175s to GWR

Surely if it was an external egress handle they wouldn't have been able to get a brake release and drive the unit out of the West End of Plymouth Station?? As I understand it, the fault only occurred once the driver had changed ends in which case, the egress handle would not have been operated.

    Class 175s to GWR

5Z24 will form a 5Z25 21:40 to Laira. You can drive three 175’s in multiple out to Laira without issue, the problem arises when you key out at Laira and change ends, then the computer just says No!

    Class 175s to GWR

They may be diagrammed but it doesn’t haopen. 5Z16 will not be formed of all three coupled together either, it has been tried, and they’ve failed on all but one occasion.

    Class 175s to GWR

There’s a coupler adaptor at Laira they fit to an 08 to drag 175’s around the depot.
