As you probably know, that's a load of rubbish. Avanti even state on their Journey Check section of their website that if your booked Avanti train is cancelled you can travel up to two trains before or after your cancelled booked train.

Wasn't there a similar incident involving a Cross Country HST a few years ago? I seem to recall it being at Bristol Temple Meads, the front power car becoming divided from the rest of it's train as it tried to leave the Station northbound.

I've just boarded an Avanti train and the Shop Assistant stated about the mandatory bag for any hot drinks sold during her announcement. I'm guessing it's a new thing because I don't remember it being specifically stated until recently.
