I was charged in Euros no GBP alternative. I was surprised and queried it but the waiter did not know anything more as the charge was automatically added by the machine.

If you want to have a good business case for incremental electrification then ideally you would want to achieve each stage just before new trains are rolled out.
So if it takes 5 years to plan and implement an electrification scheme then you want new trains just after.

I've noticed on Realtimetrains that the runs from Old Dalby to St Pancras and back are timed as for class 360 at 100mph under the wires.
Presumably the full speed electric testing for double 810 units will be in the near future?
Derby and Nottingham stations have already been redesigned with future proofing for Electrification.
My understanding is that Sheffield station layout would need to be modernised?
If HS2a is built prior to NPR west then there is little additional passenger capacity created.
