Report of collision Bedford (Elstow) - 19/06/26

54 people still in hospital several days after the accident, especially given how keen the NHS usually is to get people moved on, certainly emphasizes that it was a really big impact.

Bookham Tunnel - Track Workers Near-Miss

That was my impression on reading the report too. I guess there's years and years of "lessons learned" and arse covering in these documents such that it's now virtually impossible to ever make anything smaller and more practically meaningful.

    Caroline Inspection Saloon

I'd be interested to know what is it actually used for ? Senior management and/or owner's jollies is sort of my impression ?

Rye house flooding - Hertford East branch closed

It wasn't that long ago that raw sewage was routinely dropped from trains onto the track, so this is just a small revisit of those times...

    Urgent TOPS Requests

Any info on this working ? It seems to be a very very long journey with hours spent in various loops. https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:R25926/2025-12-18/detailed

    Night Riviera Questions

Likewise, rather than starting a new thread: A couple of times this week, the stock seems to have needed turning after arriving at Paddington, and to allow this an STP path was created that goes Paddington -> Didcot -> Newbury -> Reading Depot. When I saw it going past in the week, I thought...

Project Oval: TfL win DfT contract to expand contactless system to 233 rail stations by May 2024, Railcards coming to contactless payment cards

It seems a bit weird that LNER (controlled by DfT) don't want to be part of Oval (controlled by DfT).

East-West Rail (EWR): Should they be driver only operated, or driver & guard operated?

This issue seems to be all over the media again today.

Project Oval: TfL win DfT contract to expand contactless system to 233 rail stations by May 2024, Railcards coming to contactless payment cards

I don't follow this thread that often so apologies if this has been mentioned recently: Is there any news on the "Railcards coming to contactless payment cards" bit ? Or is this still at Phase 0 of some multi-year multi-consultant IT feasibility study ?

    GWR Droplight Fatality Findings

Just the lack of spiky fencing everywhere would certainly make an NR person's head explode.

Edinburgh Park > Newcastle : Would it be OK to start journey at EDB

Have you thought about putting your bags in a left luggage place in Edinburgh central rather than going back to your original hotel ? There are plenty of places that offer this service.

    Oxford ticket validity

A few years ago they had posters by the gatelines which had a list of all the "peak trains" between 4pm and 7pm for which many off-peak tickets are not valid, but the posters also had a tiny footnote that explained something along the lines of "off peak tickets for other routes may be valid on...

GWR Class 230 Information, Movements & Discussion.

Presumably the Greenford service is bundled with a load of other stuff, and there are existing agreements about how it's all bundled and how many drivers you need for the whole lot.

    Hull Trains Strike over dismissal

Maybe they don't even need to, if they can run the Good Friday service without striking staff. On a normal day, they were only losing one service out of six, I think.
