    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Pleased to see the tram train extension out to Creigiau and Pontyclun/Beddau is still being mentioned.

There's also the proposals for NW Cardiff and possibly into RCT. So yeah, I don't think that this thread will 'run out of steam' anytime soon.

South Wales 'Metro': have mistakes been made? And could it be improved further?

"crappy old Welsh train" It probably was a "crappy English train" first.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

The new platform at Aberdare could be to allow trains to terminate there while another train is still occupying the old platform. Especially when the frequency is doubled in case of late running. As for Hirwaun, in my opinion the major stumbling block is the Roberttown crossing/roundabout. It...

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

The Hirwaun would be difficult with a regular train service because of the level crossing at Roberttown. The crossing is virtually next to the A4059 roundabout. One coal train per day was acceptable but potentially 8 per hour? I think the NW Cardiff extension to Creigiau, Beddau and Talbot...

    Correct :)

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

I assume that the loop will still be needed if the line will be handling 4 trains per hour each way? I could be wrong though.

If true that would improve in time seeing that Cardiff's city centre seems to be relocating to the Bay.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Yes, I said it was already bypassed, by the A449. Correct me if I'm wrong but the road between Newport - Usk - Raglan was the A449 originally? Anyway a station wouldn't help with the lorry situation as someone has already said. The biggest problem is that freight capacity and infrastructure...

Not any more - unless the road is a 100% needed.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Caerleon would have to be by-passed with a new road to solve the problem of lorries. That won't happen for the foreseeable future (if at all) as it doesn't lie on any main roads, being 'by-passed' in the 60's/70s by the A449. I hope the Creigiau/Llantrisant/Beddau/Pontyclun project happens...

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

I can imagine you're the type who won't travel on public transport because you don't want to sit with the great unwashed. I mean that with respect of course.
