Trivia: Railway stations primarily accessed through shopping centres

Cleveland Tower Center in Ohio to access the RTA light rail lines.

    Avanti West Coast first class

One good way of getting value out of first class on Avanti is using them as part of an Interrail trip. The only time I ever use first on Avanti is on the outbound/inbound days as part of a bigger trip across Europe. Avanti do let first class Interrail ticket holders use their proper first class...

    Eurostar Plus is becoming worse

In the end, I checked the seat map again a day prior to my travel and a solo seat had suddenly become available, so I grabbed it. It was a very pleasant journey from Brussels to London in the end, lovely crew who were more than happy to do a second drinks round between Lille and the tunnel. I...

    Eurostar Plus is becoming worse

All three classes can select their own seats after booking. Everyone is subject to a change of train (except Rotterdam and Amsterdam passengers) and their seat being changed. But Plus can also have their seat changed if they need more Premium seats.

    Eurostar Plus is becoming worse

No, on the seat selector they have this covered in the small print by saying they may need to change your seat due to operational reasons. This disclaimer is hidden in a drop down menu under ‘Seat Information’.

    Eurostar Plus is becoming worse

What annoys me the most about Eurostar Plus is that you have a higher risk of getting your seat changed. When I travel solo, I like Eurostar Plus so I can select a solo seat. The food is just a bonus really. However, for my journey next Tuesday, they have relocated me into a different coach as...

    RST Travel Vouchers on SNCB

Our neighbouring countries, with the exception of France, are the most brilliant places to use RST Travel vouchers in. (Ireland, NI, Belgium and The Netherlands) As others have said, they are easy and flexible, partners and independents get vouchers for them and you get two allocations per year...

    Pub gardens facing railway lines

Codsall station pub. The beer garden is right next to the platform. A fantastic little pub.

Comedic "things you would ban": minor things that irritate you

I would ban signs showing what lane is closed approaching a merge in turn at roadworks. Just sighs saying how far you are from a merge in turn. If you make everyone figure it out when they get there, people might merge in turn better, the traffic should flow better and the self appointed lane...

Oldest Tunnel on a Light Rail / Metro Service

Aren't Hilltop/Black Lake and Hockley Tunnels on the Midland Metro somewhere around 1854? Granted, not quite as old as some mentioned here.

Thoughts on Birmingham New Street station not opening its main doors until 8am on Sundays?

You may not know it but your experiences and the replies to your post may actually help someone in the future. I think there's a lot of inexperienced train travellers who google when they're unsure, and come across this forum to find their answers. A lot of my successes on my travels have come...

    Brussels - Cologne problems

I've just recieved confirmation that our ICE 15 we have seat reservations for on Monday morning can no longer run from Brussels to Koln. So Aachen it is. Not too much of a problem as that's the only journey we're making that day and we're travelling on FIP coupons. The only thing we need to be...

    Interrail Sale

In the meantime, I've just made use of the Eurostar flash sale and the TGV Lyria sale. London to Paris for £67 in Eurostar Plus and Paris to Geneva for 40 Euros first class. That's my Swiss trip sorted thank you!

    Donald Trump and rail

What were his election pledges on infrastructure outside of 'Project 2025'? Trying to find out for myself, but I'm struggling.

Extreme weather in Germany, Poland, Austria, Czechia - Travel Disruptions Expected - and cancelled nightjet question

Finally received confirmation of my refund for my reservation from OBB this morning. They won’t refund my associated hotel costs though, said that was to be taken up with Interrail. But my hotel room was less than the sleeper reservation in the end so I’ve ended up not out of pocket.
