Totally agree. I was in there for a first visit 9.30 Friday morning. Same offerings. So you probably did well for a weekend.

Was looking forward to trying out this 1st Class dining service from Cardiff to Bangor midweek in June but notice that no advance tickets are available after early April. Are 1st advance fares being discontinued on this train or are they not released until close to travel date. Thanks to anyone...

Thanks for quick reply. I have misread the arrival time of The Chieftain. It should read 13-53 - so that gives us 8 minutes in total - should just about do it if on time.

We are travelling from Inverness to Newark Northgate 1st April with an East Coast Rewards tickets on the Highland Chieftain arriving York 13-56. Our conneection to Newark departs 14-01. Will 5 minutes be enough time. We will not be able to use stairs with luggage and are fairly slow walkers...

Yes it is barriered. I do not know who owns it other than ROBIN HOOD CAR PARKS. It is in two parts - a small park opposite the station and a large one if this is full on the same side of the road as the station. You collect a ticket and pay at the machine just before you exit by card or cash...

Opposite and next door to the station is Robin Hood parking. I have always found spaces there especially on the station side. Better still it is cheaper.

Update after contacting 1st Great Western. E mail reply just stating what we already know that Advance fares can go up or down according to train capacity levels. No answer to my specific question of why the reduction 8 or 9 weeks before the travel date...

Book early for best Advance fares - not always the case. I booked last week two 1st Class senior Advance tickets £73-30 from Paddington to Penzance on 10th June on 10-06 departure. After only one week of booking these fares have been reduced to £56-10. I can understand reductions nearer the time...

Travelled on the 14-00 from Edinburgh Friday 8th March. Afternoon tea "Scone Express" that day. No scones though just sandwiches and cake. No hot food. Suited me fine but if you are wanting anything more substantial advise you eat before travelling.

I see East Coast are offering all their Reward offerings at 20% off this week. Will there be a rush? Are you going to take advantage? My opinion - It is quite a generous offer. What do others think.
