GWR First Class Host checking tickets

With the exception of a 10-car in the front, where a senior host will check either manually or with a scanner.

    Caledonian Sleeper

It’s definitely the case on the 80x fleet. The vestibule doors do not open automatically one-way, but I believe they can be released by a T-Key above the door, then slid open if necessary. 1758017072

On modern rolling stock, during a fire alarm, doors often become one way. As it's unclear when an alarm is going off on a train exactly where the fire may be, this prevents people from accidentally going towards a fire, but allows people to escape. I'd hazard a guess that the fire alarm was...

    RMT industrial action 5th - 12 September 2025

Okay fair enough, core stations closed, not core closed. I stand admonished. ☺️

    RMT industrial action 5th - 12 September 2025

It’s not open, which means it’s closed. But thanks, I thought with places like Farringdon having two separate buildings, the Elizabeth Line side was staffed by EL staff, not LUL.

    RMT industrial action 5th - 12 September 2025

Anyone know why the Elizabeth Line core is closed after 10:30pm on Monday and Wednesday? Absolutely pain the in arse, as I need to get from work in Central to home in East on Wednesday night, so Lizzie Line would make the most sense, but not if it’s closed. 1757104555 Also note that TfL show...

    Azuma seating

Absolutely true. My comment was thinking about the poor design for long journeys, as opposed to the build quality, which was obviously what was in question. Let’s see how LNER’s are after refresh. You’re right about the 700s, I use them almost daily and they’re almost the same as they always...

    Azuma seating

Correct - they are both Fainsa Sophia. A product that Fainsa advertise as a seat for regional rail (I.e. short journeys) - not intercity.

    Caledonian Sleeper

Yes, obviously. I was questioning the cause of the HVAC failing across the fleet on a slightly warm day. Not saying that they should run without.

Look like HVAC issues causing part cancellations today: Southbound Highlander from Fort William and Aberdeen Southbound Lowlander from Edinburgh and Glasgow Northbound Highlander to Fort William and Aberdeen (From Edinburgh) Ticket acceptance for passengers on tonight's LNER 1E29, 19:37...

14/06/25 11:30 London Liverpool Street to Norwich Disruption - Strange disruption message

I believe they can't start a journey from a depot without a UAT (if there are toilets on board), but can continue in service if it fails, until it goes back to a depot on its assigned diagram.

Train delayed to enable customer connections

In LNER land, there are a few services that are sometimes held for a short while to maintain connections that aren’t the final service of the day. Southbound from York, the xx02 stopper (starting at York) will be held up to about 10 minutes to maintain a connection (from the adjacent platform)...

Has a Ticket Examiner ever been left behind?

On LNER today, all staff, first and standard class catering, and any staff travelling on board (including managers) are meant to be on the platform at a customer door at every stop to greet customers and provide assistance if needed. In practice usually only staff on shift do it, but I have...

Should the authorities do more to combat barrier jumping?

I don't see many try to jump at mainline stations, as wrong'uns on long distance journeys will often pay a little to get through the barriers (doughnuting, child ticket, railcard/RST fraud). However at my local GTR South London Metro station, I'd say there's usually at least one or two people...

Scotrail HST serious tree strike avoidable- ASLEF.

If it were the case that the helpline's calls through were largely not an emergency, surely they should have a separate emergency and non-emergency number. Treating it as low priority surely would not pass any risk assessment. Absolutely wild imo.
