When was the last time Leeds saw a 156

Yes it did happen. I was the Leeds driver lucky enough to be on that diagram that day and was informed when I booked on by the train crew supervisor that I had a little treat for that days trip to Carlisle. It was on 2H86 10.49 Leeds - Carlisle. Yes passengers travelled in it, and was uncoupled...

Collision between train and car at Hoghton near Preston (25/06)

Yes there would have to be an override somewhere as Hoghton is an AHB. If the barriers failed, I suppose car drivers would eventually just chicane across the railway regardless.

Collision between train and car at Hoghton near Preston (25/06)

Mintholme and Hosital crossings are both controlled by Preston box. Bamber bridge is just a gate box now that controls Bamber Bridge crossing

Near miss(?) - Chesterfield South Junction

Yep. When authorised to pass a signal at danger. Part of the message given by the signaller is “proceed at caution at a speed you can observe the line to be clear being prepared to stop short of any obstruction, ensuring any points are set correctly”.

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

Which one? There’s three they are working on at the moment. Ridge Road bridge between East Garforth and Micklefield is closed to road traffic and won’t be completed until December. Crawshaw’s bridge, between Garforth and Cross Gates was back in place but last time I drove the route work on the...

Transpennine Route Upgrade - What immediate improvements will passengers see?

Only just catching up on this thread but the service is to be retained after the TRU work is finished but is transferring from TPE to Northern, which I mentioned to our Area Operations Manager as an idea when we used to operate it as a Huddersfield to Castleford service before it transferred...

    Train Station Trivia

I work for them at Leeds and know that there are no booked workings for 170’s through Bradford. They might however appear on one once in a blue moon to cover for a non available 158 but nothing actually diagrammed. There is one that comes on a service from Hull on a night coupled to a 158 but...

    Train Station Trivia

155’s have one diagram from Hull to Halifax. 170’s do not have any diagrammed work but every now and again one might appear on a Hull to Halifax but very rarely.

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

It will make it a long walk from the houses to the station. The footbridge having to be removed to allow room for the extended loop past Rose Lane. Just imagine ‘I used to walk to the station now I have to use my car’!

New Northern service between Leeds & Sheffield: how could it be improved further?

Many thanks for the info, shows how things can change. Would have been nice to drive a 170 faster than 65mph but hey ho.

New Northern service between Leeds & Sheffield: how could it be improved further?

Internally stated at Leeds that the new service will be operated with 170’s. It was also mentioned internally a couple of months ago that a couple of services would start with the new timetable on the 14th of December.
