Strange structure on the sunshine coast line?

That'll be the Clacton VOR (VHF Omni-directional Range Radio Beacon) A Navigation aid for aircraft. Tom.

    EMT 1st All day Meals

I'm lucky I know several months in advance when I'm going to travel so I vary rarely pay over £38 return for a 1st class ticket. Having looked at East Coast you'd struggle to get a one way ticket for that! I haven't used the lounge at St Pancras yet, I usually stop at AMT for a cheeky hot...

    EMT 1st All day Meals

I've just travelled on the 11:55 EMT service from St Pancras to Sheffield in 1st. Before we had even pulled out of St P I had a cup of tea, biscuit and water and within 5 minutes of leaving one of the first class hosts was walking through taking food orders. I can recommend the ploughmans...

Brad Pitt charters a Virgin Train!

I see, but I still don't understand how you arrive at 10k per hour. It's likely the operator would have quoted you two one way trips given there are a couple of days between arrival and departure. In a J31 you're looking at about 2 hours flying between LGW & Tolouse so two trips is going to be 8...

Brad Pitt charters a Virgin Train!

I don't know which company you enquired with but if that's the figure they gave you they obviously didn't take you seriously! A Jetstream 31 would be no-where near that! Try more like £1000 per hour, if that. Tom.

    Tornado

Seen passing Pirbright Junc earlier. Failure, or is it related to the problems up at Surbiton due a a vehicle hitting a bridge and the subsequnt delays? Tom.

East Midlands Trains, their C158s are excellent, but their Meridians absolute c**p ?

Just to swing back on to topic for a moment, over the last year I've become a frequent EMT user between London and Sheffield. I've travelled on both refurbed HST and Meridan and have to say I now try and make sure I'm always on the later. Because I can always book well in advance I always...

    recommendations for a railway holiday?

There is a lovely apartment in the top floor of Chathill station on the ECML in Northumberland. Have stayed there myself and can highly recommend it! http://www.sykescottages.co.uk/cottage/Northumbria-Northumberland-Alnwick/Signalmans-Apartment-1250.html Tom.

    EMT 1st Class Food

Yes, thats correct. I've travelled in 1st on EMT quite a bit recently, mainly on Meridians, and the service has always been excellent, although I haven't quite worked out when exactly they do full at seat service and when they don't. It seems to be a bit random. Tom.
