There's an obvious difference in meaning between the two words. Personally I'm interested in railways; routes, timetables, stations, infrastructure etc...but not at all interested in trains.

Yes...I know; that's precisely the point; there's no direct rail service between the two stations because they're on different lines, but close to each other.

I've always assumed that the Barton Line is used for travel between Grimsby and Hull.

I've lost count the number of times I've yelled at the top of my voice inside my head that no-one's desperate to look at the departures on page 2, or subsequent screens. At all the local stations I use the amount of time the screen displays page 1, 2, 3, etc seems to be the same length of time...

Thanks everyone for putting so much time and effort into the thread, and even working out some sort of mathematical formula to compare stations. If we really want to get specific we could work out a map using the number of services to distance ratio.

Something I've noticed, most recently at Meadowhall (Sheffield) Station. I was sitting on a train and there was a train on the opposite platform and the passengers must have been about 12-18 inches higher than me. Is this unusual to have such variation...and what are the implications for bridges...

Strangely a couple of the station announcers at Doncaster seem to pronounce 'Goole' and 'Hull' the same.
