As confirmed in an earlier post No. 65894 will be running 2 services per day on the line during August so I will definitely have to take advantage of that, a good acquisition for the railway and an upgrade on the previous small locos that ran the line. News of a visiting loco for the 40's...
185's, 153's and 156's used of late mate.
No railtours have visited in donkeys years and no freight either which is one of the reasons why the WCR service has attracted so much attention.
She is indeed a superb loco, very well looked after at the L&HR where she is used quite often. It is always nice to see the Fairburn's get loaned out to other steam railways where they can stretch their legs so to speak, seen videos of them in action at the GCR for certain, superb locos that...
Bashed the 11:30 departure from Windermere today. Head out of window job for the journey to Oxenholme which was simply majestic, however I suffered quite a severe allergic reaction to pollen. Alighted at Oxenholme with blood read eyes and tears streaming down my face. The 40 minute turn around...
Fair point made there, although I myself only prefer to visit heritage railways with substantial legnth - and steam running is a must. I believe the line has a lot going for it providing it can offer a regular steam operation, the scenery and history of North Yorkshire is superb.
I will be totally gutted if I miss out and the chance to bash a 37 later in the week. I have a bad feeling its gonna be 57's for the rest of the week now. But still I am not hasten to admit that it would still be fantastic.
Would love WCR to pull a rabbit out of the hat and run steam purely for...
Not sure when, if ever they have had 2 steam locos running, alas not many steam locos have even visited the railway. Such a shame as they are missing out on punters, they really are missing a trick. Even if they borrow the J27 it will be time before its running, securing the loco, moving it and...
I have been pining a trip on 'The Wensleydale' for a while now, and not during weekends/school holidays, however, I will only visit when steam is running. The loco borrowed from Llangollen 'Jennifer' has had some issues and been sent away for repairs, she has been for some time now.
Does...
Thanks for that mate, will def have to have a bash next week. Loco hauled services on the Windermere branch is the stuff of deams for me. It is a fantastic line but sees nothing but DMU's, no railtours visit which surprises me given its location. I never understood why a loop was not installed...
Wonderful question that has inspired me to post, despite 'lurking' for the first time in a while, so here 'my bit':
(1) Lakeside and Haverthwaite to Ulverston
(2) Ribble valley steam (Preston) both to Preston sidings, and further out from the dock.
(3) East Lancs to Bacup/Accrington and to...
