The discussion on the lack of shelters at these new build stations highlights a lot of what is wrong with the railway at the moment. Where is the comfort of the customer in all this?
It really isn’t that difficult to specify a basic, economical modular structure.
Two or preferably 3 sides...
So, the story to date:
Sometime prior to July 23 the LNER station maps on the National Rail Journey Planner website were changed.
The updated maps are essentially illegible and therefore useless.
This was pointed out to National Rail twitter. Their reply was the plans were provided by the TOC...
I’ve looked on the National Rail Journey Planner website for a plan showing the numbering of the York Station platforms.
The details for York Station include a plan showing the layout of the station. The plan includes the platform numbers.
The platform numbers are just about illegible, mainly...
I travelled on the Huddersfield Penistone line today for the first time in a while (150008). The comments on this thread about the standard of the automated announcements are certainly justified.

I’ve been following the progress of the TRU on the forum.
I recently travelled between Huddersfield and York. The first time for a while. I was surprised at the general level of engineering activity all along this stretch of the line.

There is the original attractive footbridge which is closed off.
Next to it is a temporary? footbridge which appears to be cobbled together with whatever happened to be lying around at the time. It’s an over engineered eyesore.
It...
York for me.
The size and span of the roof, together with the long sweeping curve are very impressive.
You can’t beat having a cup of coffee in the old signal box on the central footbridge, and just watching the world go by on the tracks below.
First time on a train for 18 months!
A return journey from Penistone to Huddersfield on a reasonably full train.
I was very impressed with the 150. Spotlessly clean and on time. The guards were very visible too.
One gripe. We’ve now got wall to wall announcements all the time. When the train is...
Bond Street always seems to appear as the last station that will be completed. What is the current problem? I know there were significant delays during the initial civil engineering/ construction. Is the current delay a hangover from that?
Robertj21a said further up the thread that he doesn’t believe that things are totally impossible and that some sort of temporary emergency toilet should be possible.
We then have various comments explaining why we can’t, all in the context of the existing toilet on the train, and the power and...
