We're not really trained in routes, and I absolutely now accept that I was in the wrong with the Huddersfield tickets. The decision was made in conjunction with a train manager, having checked Avantix and seen that there was a route via Manchester with completely different prices. I'd not seen...
I'd imagine that point 58 of the National Rail Conditions of Carriage (my copy is dated 24th July 2006) would fairly easily cover barging past a member of revenue protection staff.
If you're absolutely convinced about the route then ask to speak to someone else, sure. But just be warned that, regardless of if you have a valid ticket or not, revenue protection staff often have the right to refuse travel. And no, they can't physically stop you. But a quick call to the BTP...
So you accept the need for reducing fare evasion, yet you get annoyed when the staff try to do that?
Having automated barriers (rather than a line of revenue protection staff like that rather excellent lot at Euston for Virgin) on long distance routes does seem rather odd. With the huge...
I can't imagine that would ever be allowed to happen. Between the WCML and the ECML appears to be pretty much the only thing that could be described as real competition on the railways (and even then there are limited numbers of journeys you'd have real choice) so I can't see DfT ever...
Assuming your ticket is an Advance ticket, you'd pay the difference between your advance ticket and the relavent single fare (ie an off peak single since you'll be travelling on a weekend). Plus the extra £10.
That's assuming you're travelling earlier. If you arrive after your original train...
Buy the most expensive rover ticket and only use it for a particularly short journey (Falmouth Town to Falmouth Docks springs to mind, but I'm sure there's a shorter one. Perhaps something for another thread). But that's perhaps cheating.
In the past few weeks I've seen (as an RPO at Euston) a number of people with Any Permitted tickets from London to Huddersfield wanting to travel via Manchester. To me that sounds completely illogical, and that the best way would be travelling via King's Cross and changing at either Wakefield or...
I can lend out some basic economics textbooks if anyone needs them?
The original poster complains that there are supposedly too many shops with too high prices. So what do you expect the prices would be like if there was just one shop in the station? They'd be able to charge pretty much...
Aah, fair enough. Seems like it's a long term testing then!
I actually used one of the trains today and my iPod Touch was showing that there were two hidden networks in range. Though I couldn't connect to them because I didn't know the SSID of them.
The Virgin railway is run for passengers going longer distances. There's the choice of Midland or Overground services which are there for passengers between Euston and Watford.
And when does someone doing their job to keep the railways running turn into being a "jobsworth"? When a policy...
Problems again this evening. Broken train around Rugby. Lady Penelope went out to rescue it, but everything supposedly had to be diverted via Northampton. Then the 1910 Holyhead train broke down, then had to be hauled by the 2010 which eventually leftnat getting on 2100.
Why should they be "passenger friendly" towards people who aren't entitled to travel on their services? Presumably Virgin don't get money from Euston to Watford tickets?
