HS2 could cost up to £102.7bn and trains won't start until at least 2036

Really don't seem to have many answers on this reset: * How much does reducing the speed save? What is the design speed now? I thought the plan was to start running at a lower speed and gradually/overnight increase speed. * Will there be the expected reduction in capacity North of Birmingham...

Plan for cheaper HS2 Northern leg unveiled

Seems like the report does a lot of changing the goal posts to justify it's cost savings. For example they admit that changing to ballasted track which affects the speed does not take into account the whole life costs which HS2 did. So it could mean all these savings are not really that big but...

Bad design of Thameslink platform departure screens

Nearly all the screens and dot matrix displays on the national network are made by Infotec who configure them to each operator. They all use the same software from reading their website so could all be updated to be consistent, at least in terms of software.

Confirmed : HS2 West Midlands-Manchester line to be scrapped and replaced with other projects.

The land should still be covered by a covenant that it can be bought by compulsory purchase for 8 more years (I think).

Redevelopment Plans for Liverpool Street - Development Policy Going Backwards

Though the current render shows the removal of all the retail units above the current gate line and along it.

Redevelopment Plans for Liverpool Street - Development Policy Going Backwards

Render below which shows the extent of the demolished concourse (essentially everything up to the tracks) and replacement with a double deck concourse. No idea why they feel a double deck concourse is better here, making the main concourse the exact opposite of what it is currently with low...

Alstom and Hitachi now announced as winners of HS2 rolling stock supplier contract

Will Avanti have a say if they are losing the franchise before these are introduced?

Alstom and Hitachi now announced as winners of HS2 rolling stock supplier contract

Yeah, just read the EC judgement (or tried to) and it seems the partnership can continue because Hitachi couldn't go it alone for this one. But in the future Hitachi now own the Zefiro V300 IP so would go alone for future orders...

Alstom and Hitachi now announced as winners of HS2 rolling stock supplier contract

If these are Zefiro based trains, and with Alstom selling its stake in Zefiro to Hitachi by early next year will this Hitachi-Alstom join venture become just Hitachi?

Southeastern to OLR: what could happen next?

Class 707s facing another rebranding whilst they are being introduced. Cursed to always be in the wrong colours.

Great British Railways: Replaces Network Rail & more changes - updates only (non-speculative)

How does the tendering process work? If a company decides to bid for running a service that then becomes unsustainable (e.g. they low-ball so government payments no longer meet their costs) what difference is this to the franchise model where this was the cause of most failures? Surely this...

    Class 345 progress

Question: Does the 345 have a single gangway door on one of the carriages. There is a button that can be seen here: https://www.ianvisits.co.uk/blog/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/elizabeth-train-launch-07.jpg where the gangway is narrower then usual. Any reason for this?
