It has nothing scheduled or booked regularly anymore. It gets the odd railtour or engineering train but barely ever even get a diverted freight anymore.
The Longannet Signal Box is only opened when any services need to pass through and there was some damage to the signalling equipment in the...
You’ve totally misunderstood the post. It can be a shame that these pieces of history are going while also being a positive that the Blyth and Tyne is seeing passenger services again. Marcheys House, North Seaton and Newsham boxes along with all the semaphores had to go for the benefit of these...
Sad to see it go, along with Marcheys House and North Seaton, and previously Ashington too. It’s a shame but it really sounds as if it was barely standing.
What’s the future of Bedlington North now? Bedlington South and Winning are still in use and the rest are gone.
You’re right, it has potential to be a semi-busy station serving a reasonably sized residential area, a bit similar to what South Gyle does. However, that’s clearly not why they built it. No suburban/residential/commuter station needs the lavish facilities that are present at Gateway. It was...
It doesn’t help that the station wasn’t even in Breich, and they rebuilt it in the exact same place. However, the only reason it had 1 passenger was because it only had about 3 trains. With an hourly service it has a solid, if unspectacular, steady usage now. The Shotts line is pretty lightly...
Elevation is a bit of a problem there I think. Plus you’d need a new service to run into Grangemouth, whereas the Glasgow direction it would be a simple extension without interfering with any timetables.
Think Leven will be a lot more successful than Grangemouth would ever be, much bigger place and catchment area attached on to an already busy service serving many big towns. Grangemouth would probably attract decent custom but it would effectively be an extension of a ghost service. The fact an...
With the news about Grangemouth really being confirmed I’m sure this talk will arise again, even if Grangemouth is retained for aviation fuel freight.
While the turnaround time is there, and the electrified double track line is there, and no terminal capacity/extra units may be required, there...
A 2-hourly service with the odd TPE thrown in would actually be a brilliant service for about half of the stations in Scotland  East Linton may just about justify its case, but Reston is just absolutely pointless.
Edinburgh-Dunbar ScotRail service prior to the chaos timetable was 2 hourly (roughly) and called at Musselburgh, this later included Wallyford and East Linton. Unfortunately any improvements to North Berwick & Dunbar services are unlikely with the current infrastructure. You’d be unlikely to get...
While brand new and flashy (in what was the middle of nowhere at the time) it’s a pretty bare station in terms of facilities. Edinburgh Gateway is a massive station with excellent facilities, amongst the best in Scotland, however it is lightly used and feels rather eerie due to this.
