Class 379 breaks West Anglia Main Line Speed Record

Or, more importantly, whose fault it was, and who pays who compensation

Class 379 breaks West Anglia Main Line Speed Record

Until recently, they used to advertise the journey as being "35 minutes to London" or something similar. In the small print it said "Tottenham Hale". They got hauled over the coals for that  http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2010/sep/08/stansted-posters-banned-journey-time They are...

Class 379 breaks West Anglia Main Line Speed Record

It's all NX flim flam. Pure PR tosh. I've commuted daily on the line since 1978, firstly from Audley End & Whittlesford, then since 1997 from Stansted Airport. I've been on the Fenman when it made Audley End in the high 30 minute timing, and I've done the airport in the mid 30's, when the...

    Class 379 Miscellanea

It is a well known fact that no Bishops Stortford commuter even realises there is a door close button, particularly in the middle of winter :D  (sorry, nothing personal, couldn't resist it ;) )

    Class 379 Miscellanea

Due to the lunatic way we run our train system, i.e. one organisation to operate the track and infrastructure and many organisations to run trains, it also serves to try and apportion blame as to who is responsible when a unit pan brings the OHL down  They aren't allowed to show a...

I must know you, or at least by sight  I've not seen or heard the trainee before (once heard, not forgotten), he must be new.

For anyone that cared (read: was stupid enough) to get up early today, 002/030 in fact ran as the 0615 ex SSD - I was on it  I guess it would therefore have run: 0615 Stansted - London 0725 London - Stansted 0830 Stansted - London Then as per your list :) How's the driver...

    Greatest Travel Distances by Train

I've done Edmonton to Toronto on the ViaRail Canadian, a 3,221 km three days and nights journey - same train, no changes except seven crew changes

    Class 379 Miscellanea

Long gone are the days when Alexis used to get on the train and give us all a lot of grief  Funnily enough I was talking to Gill the StanEx host on the way home this evening and Starsky's name came up too :D

    Class 379 Miscellanea

How's the driver training going? For the first time this week I have had a 379 morning and evening (0615, 1655), this morning was back to a 317/7, but I suspect that was because a 379 computer decided to have a lay-in

    Class 379 Miscellanea

Well, I can say it - the Brimsdown and Enfield Lock area is the badlands of Hertfordshire  Ah, I'll have to do some checking on who the ex SE host now driver is then  I've forgotten her name, but her nickname was Fergie. That must be 10 years ago.....

    Class 379 Miscellanea

That's not 'Fergie', who used to be a host (as they were then called) on the Stansted Express some years ago, is it? --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Why is it Enfield Lock or Brimsdown crossings that always have all the problems? :( (Actually, I suspect I can answer that...

    Class 379 Miscellanea

Are you on a 379? In which case the driver has 74 lights on the hi vis yellow front of the train, so should go full steam ahead and one toot of the horn to give the trespasser a sporting chance of getting out of the way :-x
