222 contract for Scotrail: updates (not speculation)

I had a chat with Gemini and (cut a little slack here) I would say the current 4 car HST seating is a little less with the proposed 222 configuration. Some timetables services are packed currently, doesn’t leave much growth. The 5 car HST makes a big difference of course for standard seating...

222 contract for Scotrail: updates (not speculation)

I would conclude that they won’t have the 222/1 subclass now if no mechanical difference and ScotRail standardising on 5 car and identical interior layout and configuration which would make sense.

Looks like all the remaining 5 car units. What’s the difference in the 222/1 subclass?

    ScotRail HST formations

That’s a lot of investment sitting doing nothing in a siding. As a tax payer in Scotland, I’d be justified in being a bit miffed about that - particularly after infrastructures like Cadder being built.

ScotRail HST Introduction - Updates & Discussion

I think the whole reason the project was based on was taking revenue away from the 800 operators on a very profitable route for commuters and tourists alike. 2030 is the end for them isn’t it? The carbon neutral railway target. 800’s will be purchased I reckon but it is the variant that needs...

Haven’t seen anything at Cadder since it opened. If that’s correct then clearly a reason why less sets out

Scotrail InterCity 125 (HST) units, do they actually run at 125mph?

It is also Scotrails response to the rival operators 800’s running Glw/Edi north and taking revenue away. Modern luxury travel v Turbostar…… what would you choose?

ScotRail HST Introduction - Updates & Discussion

It’s not reasonable to expect power car access at each station. The guard needs to manage this and dwelling time will increase significantly. Whether that is loading a bike or unloading it. I can understand why it was always proposed to be end points only.

ScotRail HST Introduction - Updates & Discussion

From the original plan the power car plans were end-to-end bike storage, no access with intermediate stops.

What’s the current issue with getting the 5th carriages in service? We know there was the derailment but HST’s of >5 carriages ran ECML for years. Doesn’t make sense. Yeah you could say we don’t need capacity just now but you can say the same about all the 6 car 385’s that run from Alloa to GQST

ScotRail HST Introduction - Updates & Discussion

I think the decisions had nothing to do with politicians, to suggest that it did is daft. They have more significant decisions to make. I sugggest it was a Scotrail/Union decision in the same way no ticket checking gets done.

Thanks It’s a good cost effective solution the more I think about it. more bike capacity; more toilets; more capacity in general
