    Unpaid fare. :(

If you can see it arrive from outside the station, it's usually gone by the time you reach the platform, unless your're Linford Christie.

    Unpaid fare. :(

    1) How did you know the train was in before you passed the ticket office? You can't see what's in the platforms until you get to the bottom of the stairs. 2) The guard is usually at the back of one of the units and has to open the doors at stations - easy to find if you try. It's easy to get...

Confusion over tickets to station groups e.g. 'Liverpool Stations'

Warrington Borough Council seems to think Birchwood is part of Warrington ... So you just ask them for the fare? not a PF or threaten to prosecute them? There was a case on here a few weeks ago where somebody was prosecuted for saying they'd come from Stockport when they'd come from Hazel...

Confusion over tickets to station groups e.g. 'Liverpool Stations'

Sankey (his destination) is the next station to Widnes. The only ticket he could have bought to cover his journey was to Warrington, which is £3.60 compared with £2.50. Sankey is unmanned a lot of the time. How do the conditions of carriage cover that?

Confusion over tickets to station groups e.g. 'Liverpool Stations'

I had a look at the TVM at Widnes last night. It only allowed you to choose specific stations. The only intermediate ones showing for the CLC line were Hunt's Cross, Hough Green, Warrington and Birchwood. What are you supposed to do if you want to go from Widnes to Padgate? Buy a ticket to...

Confusion over tickets to station groups e.g. 'Liverpool Stations'

I was confused by the terminology a few years ago when I bought a "not underground" season ticket. I thought this just meant I couldn't use the actual ticket on the Underground but could still use the routes if I paid the extra. However, according to the RPI who gave me a PF, it meant I wasn't...

Told off for trying to buy a ticket

It also says the opening times of the booking office will be displayed. At my local Northern Rail station, there is nothing outside the station building indicating when it will be open. The opening times may be posted inside but you won't see that unless it's already open. Also, tickets are...

Widnes to Disley ticket: permitted via Manchester Victoria?

Thanks According a the booking clerk at Warrington Central, the Warrington and Manchester stations are grouped so that any combination of Warrington to Manchester is valid. Would this still apply to season tickets starting before Warrington and finishing after Manchester? (bearing in mind that...

    Warrington Stations

Hmm. It looks like I'll be driving to work after the new station opens. Sankey to Stockport via the M56 is a lot quicker than the train, when long waiting times at Warrington Central or Oxford road are taken into account.

    Warrington Stations

Will that mean the closure of Sankey?

    Ticket barriers at Stockport

They've been open every afternoon this week, with no "helpers" in sight. I got an EMT to Widnes then Northern to Sankey and didn't have my ticket checked anywhere. Neither of the trains was anywhere near full. Before they installed the barriers, platforms 3/4 always had staff checking tickets.

Widnes to Disley ticket: permitted via Manchester Victoria?

Thanks So the 3 mile rule is no longer valid and you have to use the shorted route regardless? It makes it a bit awkward on a Sunday (going to Piccadilly) as there are no trains from my local station and I have to walk to Warrington Central - passing Bank Quay on the way!

Widnes to Disley ticket: permitted via Manchester Victoria?

Are you saying that Warrington to Manchester via Newton-le-Willows is NOT valid with a Widnes-Disley ticket? If so, I'll get a Warrington-Stockport ticket when I renew. The reason I have a Widnes-Disley ticket is that it's the same price as Warrington-Stockport and I thought the additional...

    Ticket barriers at Stockport

No, she was probably somebody who rarely travelled by train. I expect she'd shown her tickets to the guard on the train she'd travelled on and then put them away, not expecting to need them again. The other problem was that my ticket wouldn't even work! I had to hand it to a staff member to...

    Ticket barriers at Stockport

The woman in front of me took 2 minutes this morning. First, she had to take her ticket out. She then tried to put the ticket and reservation through together. Next, she tried the reservation on its own. Finally, she tried the ticket itself and it worked! She then went half way through the...
