    This morning another scam telephone caller (with an Asian voice) called to confirm my address but I said I had now moved to 24, Leinster Gardens, London W2. She accepted it and I put the phone down. Obviously not aware that it is one of the famous false fronted houses.

    There were many lines that were refused closure by the Minister for Transport. Settle- Carlisle (and Blackburn to Hellifield) were refused by Micheal Portillo in the 1980s. The whole Isle of Wight rail system was proposed for closure in the 1960s but Ryde Pier Head- Shanklin survived. More...

    I agree with bramling. The route through the town centre, closed in 1969, has been lost to shops and housing development. The route between Uckfield and Lewes is protected from development using the route of the former Hamsey Loop which closed in the 1860s. The present single line track layout...

    High Rocks station on the Spa Valley Railway is only accessible through the adjacent pub garden. The station is closed when the pub is closed or when the pub has restricted access for special events (for example weddings or corporate functions)

    Many, many years ago I travelled over the Weymouth Quay line where the railman walked in front of the train on the section through the town. The speed restriction must have been walking pace!

    Dungeness is legally private property owned by EDF Energy (according to Wikipedia) When I have travelled by car to Dungeness I have seen roadside signs stating it is a private property but the public are welcome..! There are several bus routes that serve the area. Experts on here can research that.
