Yes, it’s the Fife lines I was talking about. The headspans now have cantilevers in place for those lines as well as the existing Edinburgh - Glasgow wiring.

I travelled alongside the railway on a tram earlier this week, it looks like all of the cantilevers are in place between Haymarket and the point where the line turns north towards South Gyle.

It’s the same situation at Kingsknowe, further east on the same line. Again there is a signal at the west end of the platform, which remains red until the button is pressed in advance of the train departing.

On a recent journey to Fife, I noticed that Dunfermline Town station has been renamed Dunfermline City for this reason.

The problem with running through Newbridge village is that it can cause big delays, particularly at peak times. The 63 often gets caught up with traffic from the industrial estate, so running the X38 straight along the A89 from the roundabout avoids that potential snarl up.

A couple of years later than that, when I began travelling regularly between Queen Street and Edinburgh, there was a banner on platform 6 advertising the shuttle. Likewise there was one on platform 14 at Edinburgh.

A Lothian Buses route from Kirkliston to Edinburgh city centre is the one public transport improvement that would satisfy the most people in the village. The tram would be an attractive proposition - I don't know if the original plan for the line running to Newbridge will ever be resurrected...

Local residents in Kirkliston are far more concerned with an improved bus service than a railway station. The local MSP asked in parliament today about the possibility of a station at Kirkliston; he was informed of the usual consultation process which would have to be followed. I can't see it happening myself, as much as I would like it to.

The former "Livingston Station" area within Livingston is now part of the wider Deans area. Some older residents of the area still refer to it as Livingston Station, and I recall being told of signs being altered by people who wanted to retain the old name.

Recent engineering works meant Glasgow to Aberdeen trains were diverted via the Forth Bridge, using the line between Winchburgh and Dalmeny junctions. Are HSTs cleared for this line? (I'd like to think so, given it's the most sensible diversion route for northbound trains when works are on)
