    Eurostar new questions

What if you're on an Interrail pass & don't know where you'll be after the first few days? The whole point of Interrail is to be able to explore freely, I haven't seen anyone ask about this but it's something I've wondered about since they said about this system. Hopefully this won't kill off...

Newtown to Stafford - can I loop?

Thank you - that's a nice big loop, pretty good value for a standard ticket in this part of the country :) (And I see how that works now, good to know that a ticket from London to Shrewsbury is valid for the obviously natural route from London to Shrewsbury :p)

Newtown to Stafford - can I loop?

Ah, I see - so Newtown - Shrewsbury - Crewe - Stafford - Wolverhampton - Shrewsbury - Newtown is fine? :) I did see the maps, it's just that I was confused by them because they include routes all the way down to London & Cardiff & up to Manchester! Plus the ES map doesn't seem to include going...

Newtown to Stafford - can I loop?

Hello :) I tried to check the routeing guide but I don't understand it lol - on an ordinary return ticket from Newtown (Powys) to Stafford, does "Any Permitted" include going from Shrewsbury to Stafford via Crewe as well as via Wolverhampton? I'd like to be able to do a loop, to get some more...

Ex LNER (and Grand Central) Mark 4 sets for TfW

As I've said before I'm only very occasional poster & only a passenger, I don't know about the operational logistics & stuff like that but I can't be the only one who thinks the Mark 4s are more trouble than they're worth & they should've just got more 197s for a standard fleet? Or kept some of...

CAF class 197 Civity for TfW: News and updates on introduction.

Fair enough, like I said I'm only an ignorant passenger :p The thing that's concerning is if the full hourly service is dependent on the 197s, if they're delayed again it'll mean the service is delayed yet again :(

CAF class 197 Civity for TfW: News and updates on introduction.

Forgive my ignorance as someone whose only experience is as a passenger on the Cambrian, but would it have been easier/cheaper to restore the conventional signalling system so they could run any train down here with no problems? Just with all the delays there's been & continue to be (2026 now?!)...

Stations rebranded to Great British Railways design / Rail Alphabet 2 & 3

I don't often post but...why have Network Rail got hold of Guildford?! I'd have thought there'd be a lot of stations that'd be more worthy of NR status than Guildford...

CAF class 197 Civity for TfW: News and updates on introduction.

As a passenger on the Cambrian, I honestly don't care whether we get 197s at all, as long as it's not what the consistent hourly service depends on. Give us that & I'll be perfectly happy to keep the 158s here :)

Why do we use overhead lines in this country, given we experience windy weather conditions? Would third rail be better?

Ok, thank you - I thought there had to be good reasons :). Maybe there's a case for using some of the saved HS2 money for a complete replacement of the ECML electrification system then with better wires etc, especially through the Midlands, that seems to be the worst place. Unless it's...

Why do we use overhead lines in this country, given we experience windy weather conditions? Would third rail be better?

Moderator note: Split from https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/ecml-south-disruption-ole-down-09-12.259086 Been a lot of these, especially on the ECML, it's got me wondering - now please remember I am just a layman passenger, so this is almost certainly a deeply stupid question, please don't...

CAF class 197 Civity for TfW: News and updates on introduction.

Yeah I mean to Aberystwyth, although I'm east of Machynlleth (Newtown ) so it doesn't matter really. That's very good to know about the hourly service not being reliant on 197s coming to the line - in that case like I say, I don't mind the 158s staying. Wouldn't be too surprised if they do stay...

CAF class 197 Civity for TfW: News and updates on introduction.

Will they ever appear here on the Cambrian, and is the upgrade to a full hourly service dependent on them? I don't mind the 158s so I'm in no hurry for 197s themselves, but if we need 197s for the hourly service it'll be frustrating...

CAF class 197 Civity for TfW: News and updates on introduction.

Oh, I thought they were completely gone now because of their problems, and they were muddling through with whatever they could find until the 197 rollout ends. Are the current Saturday 197 diagrams the same?
