A New Series of "Fare Dodgers At War With the Law..."

Citizens arrests law is not simple but broadly only available if someone is committing an indictable offence, so something serious enough to potentially land you in crown court. Probably not going to be available for not giving your name and address for fare evasion.

SWR Portsmouth services diverted via Oxshott on 3/4 August

Unsurprisingly the diversion is back for 13/14 Aug. But a bit more news from SWR on the plan your journey website about planned renewal of the points. Edit: Actually I think they did mention the renewal in the previous messages at the start of the month.

SWR Portsmouth services diverted via Oxshott on 3/4 August

I was not being entirely serious about a flyover being the solution. It must be 100 years since the idea of grade separation at that junction was first mooted so I doubt it will be anytime soon. I am sure there will be cheaper solutions if hot weather is the only problem.

SWR Portsmouth services diverted via Oxshott on 3/4 August

Perhaps they will dust off the plans for a flyover again? :D

SWR to withdraw public access to Guildford Station Footbridge

Thanks to Cowley for reopening the thread. I can only apologise for not getting my update in a little quicker. But yes as guessed by others I was going to mention the planning application to remove the agreement for public access. Watershed has done a much better job than I would of linking...

SWR updating booking engine and app on 26 March 2026

I've had few emails from SWR about the app and website update. One was saying to logon and reset the password and another today to say I now need to add payment card to my Tap2Go account. So looks like the passwords and payment cards where not moved when they migrated to the system. I'd guess...

SWR outgoing Metro fleet withdrawals (complete)

I wonder if 701s replacing 458s is the last step or is it 701s displaying some of the 450s?

    Question about NR-Elizabeth Line change

Looking at TFL's own conditions conditions of carriage https://tfl.gov.uk/cdn/static/cms/documents/tfl-conditions-of-carriage.pdf in appendix 1 for ticket types: It has "additional information" which says It also says Your excellent post up thread has already covered that there is nothing...

Prosecuted for travelling using any day return T&Cs

This is due network railcard conditions of use restricting the times of use to after 10am mon-fri (4.2) But crucially and uniquely among railcards it also says It doesn't say you may be asked to pay the difference or we may prosecute you but "you will be asked". It seems clear that for a...

Prosecuted for travelling using any day return T&Cs

Very true but then National Rail website says It would seem odd to put in a T&C that says But then hit a passanger with a prosecution as the NRCoT says So skiping over the T&C which seem to be 9.2.1 and 9.2.2 and use 9.2.3 which was not mentioned in the T&C

Prosecuted for travelling using any day return T&Cs

The question, I guess, is was it not just a possible remedy but the only remedy given that by not complying with condition 4.3 (only to used mon-fri after 10am) 4.7.3 kicks in (paying the extra at a time when reduced fares do not apply) Condition 4.7 does not mention prosecution as a...

Prosecuted for travelling using any day return T&Cs

But don't the T&Cs also say that Crosscountry should have charged the difference or issued a penalty fare?

Prosecuted for travelling using any day return T&Cs

The network raicard has a condition that you don't see for other cards that directly addresses traveling at a time that discounted fares do not apply Does that make a difference to if the OP should have been excessed or issued a penalty fare rather than threatened with a prosecution if they...
