So, to make sure I've read correctly, while what you're saying makes sense, this is your own conclusion - there has not been any official communication from Northern saying that 6-car operation has been binned? Which is where I think I'm getting confused with all this.

I thought 6-car operation on Leeds North West was just waiting on the platform extensions at Leeds to allow 6 car formations to squeeze in amongst the other terminating services? Which Network Rail plans to complete in early 2021, around 2 years late. Is that no longer the case?

CAF didn't make the locomotives, so they wouldn't have been given noise limits for the locomotive. The spec requirement that'd be relevant to the coaches is a limit on power draw, and the people that wrote the spec may not have appreciated that they'd need to limit power below a certain amount...

It's likely the HVAC system draws more power than on older coaches. At 0500 in winter it'll be working reasonably hard to heat up all the coach interiors. I expect the kitchen / galley equipment will also draw more power than on older coaches, although less need for that in the depot.

I agree - it strikes me that someone calculated how far up the WCML they needed to go to make the numbers work, then picked a terminus station on a connecting branch line a short distance further on with enough spare capacity / suitable platforms to accomodate a long-ish layover. Bonus that...
