Varying quality of WiFi across Scotrail’s train fleets

No unfortunately I don't. I didn't realise it was as many as five though. The conductor alerted me to it and was very enthusiastic but I've grown out of noting down unit numbers at my age!

Varying quality of WiFi across Scotrail’s train fleets

One of those 158's formed my train on the Kyle line (where the mobile signal is dreadful for most of the route, unsurprisingly) the other week and I was blown away by how fast and stable it was. So much so, I finally took the plunge after months of deliberating and ordered it for home. If the...

    Strathspey Railway updates

Not according to their Facebook, they are running normal service with heritage diesels but some staff have had to deal with abuse because there's no steam! Beggars belief really....

Diagrams on the Far North Line

That's broadly correct, but in the case of the 0855 INV-KYL, the conductor works the 1206 back but the driver has a just over two hour break in Kyle and works the 1346 back. The 1206 is driven by a Kyle driver who then works back on the 1754 ex Inverness. Back to the Far North, what do the...

    Locomotive Services Fleet (LSL) updates

Yes it was a different view when crossing the Royal Scotsman, but the Pullman still looked great... ScotRail are, I believe, charity supporters of Andy's Man Club and this message has appeared in the last week or so. Makes a change from the overnight message about how to contact the Samaritans...

    Locomotive Services Fleet (LSL) updates

Looking pretty good at Strathcarron too...before the rain started....

    Locomotive Services Fleet (LSL) updates

Busier than a normal Sunday but by no means rammed when it came through Strathcarron. Most folk probably baulked at the price of a day return giving them 5+ hours on a 158 with no catering (and not much in Kyle either).

    TRIVIA: through-platforms with mid-platform signals

Am I right in thinking Pitlochry in the up direction since the resignalling and loop/platform extension? Up trains stop some distance before the station buildings if a down train is occupying the single line from Dunkeld?

Far North Line in the snow

Yes sadly its shut in winter but we must be grateful the "Bothy Bar" is open for eight months. The Thistle Bar is now the restaurant for, yes, hotel residents and pre-booked plebs only.... They do deliver though which comes in handy! 1768127623 Anyone know why 37619 (I think, with no station...

Far North Line in the snow

It's open from March to the end of October but for four months its a trip to the Lochcarron Hotel (although not recommended) :(

Far North Line in the snow

Thank you! It was taken with my cheapo Samsung phone and not edited in any way. I also have a nice video of the train leaving but as it's about 150mb and we only have good old fashioned copper wire out here in the sticks I can't upload it to anything....

Far North Line in the snow

Yes we've had more than 12 inches of snow since January 1st, in several batches. I feel sorry for the ScotRail station services boys who have cleared the platforms every day only for another three inches to come down an hour later! The main roads have stayed open thanks to some heroic efforts...

Far North Line in the snow

Will this do?! Strathcarron tonight about 1830 (long dwell owing to RETB issues). Still waiting for them to come back from Kyle....

Storm Amy Travel Disruption (03/10 onwards)

Storm Amy has been pretty fierce up here in the Highlands and having seen the number of trees down on the Kyle line at first hand today, I fully understand why all services tomorrow have been cancelled. So why does the ScotRail website describe that as "Minor changes"? Surely "No service"like...

New Belmond train in England & Wales

Rarely any issues on the Kyle line. It often used to cause a small delay to the 1346 from Kyle as the RS is too long for the loop at Strathcarron, so by the time the 158 had arrived, dropped the token, the RS had picked it up, the driver had pressed the plunger for the level crossing and the...
