Aws alarm is 3 seconds I believe and the other one you are thinking of is the vigilance alarm where it is 6 seconds. Though I am sure there are others on here that can give you a more detailed answer ;)
I think those boxes used to indicate the coach number of the train (A,B or C) when they run down to Liverpool Street but I am unsure as to when they stop using it. My guess would be when they stop the through train down to London.
on the 377/7, the first class is still in DMOS A but it's in the smaller section of the coach instead of the larger section in the coach like those in 377/6. Seat wise they are exactly the same.
