Usually because there need to be a certain number of exits per no. of passengers. If they squeeze in an extra row of seats or 2 it sometimes tips the balance towards needing another exit. Easyjet's A319s have an additional exit on each overwing for this reason.
2Y76 21:36 Birmingham to Euston (22.04.25)
This service seemed to run fine as far as Bletchley before turfing everyone off, running ECS to Euston, turning around, and running ECS to Northampton. For the poor folks left at Bletchley, there was an hour and 20 minute wait for the next train as it...
I think there may have also been a driver change, which probably added to the confusion. Possible second driver wasn't told to double check with guard about passengers on platform?
170s probably not terrible on Herefords, but they're definitely a drag on the Shrewsburys and indeed everywhere else with lots of short spaced stops. They're just not designed for it. And keeping a fleet of 170s just to run to Hereford doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
I would assume that a station like New Street would have its waste collected by commercial contractors such as Biffa or Veolia rather than the local authority, no?
Do Chiltern currently really require all 6 of the 196s for east-west rail traction learning? How feasible would it be for them to loan 3 (or so) of them back to WMR until EWR starts?
I'm always impressed by the overall neat hourly timetable pattern on the West Anglia mainline between Liverpool St/Stratford and Bishops Stortford which accommodates 4 cambridge (in the peaks), 2 bishops, 4 stansteds, and 2 hertfords all with a mix of stopping/semi patterns every hour on a 2...
There's one very annoyingly small crt type monitor on the eastbound electrics platform at Maryland station that must date back to the 90's. Frankly I'm surprised it wasn't gotten rid of when the liz line started. As far a I know, it's still there. What's more, it is the ONLY departure board on...
I assume this was before the A12 was built alongside and the Langthorne Road footbridge is the bridge you're referring to? I'd assumed the northern entrance/exit people were referring to was the emergency exit along an alleyway out onto Goodall Rd! Had no idea it was a fairly significant structure!
CCTV is a broad term in itself. There are many different CCTV systems with different functions. Train door cameras for DOO, forward/rear facing "dashcams" for accident investigations/(sometimes) track/line side monitoring, OHLE cameras to monitor pantographs, internal cameras to both deter and...
On a practical note, is anyone able to explain how they plan to use platform 5? I.e. to terminate services from the south before they turn in the sidings? or will platform 5 be the main "through" platform with 4 being used to terminate and restart services going south again?
You've gotten the combination stations mixed up, but agreed.
I suppose adding an additional platform face on the opposite side to the Victoria line platforms might be a potential not-quite-so-horrendously expensive option, and potentially a little less disruptive too, but would still be ... a...
