1st Class Excuses and discussion on 1st provision

Definitely yes. Female emancipation isn't only about being allowed, but also being required the same. Most of my female friends would feel insulted if given a seat for being female. If being asked or the woman in question wears a baby badge, yes. If none of the former is the case, asking...

    Engineering train derailment at Penrith

They told us, that ScotRail has no drivers allowed to go via ECML available. Pretty chaotic yesterday, till 10pm nobody (at least in Euston) really knew what's going on. At least I haven't seen (or heard the announcement for) the coaches ScotRail's website promised, passengers who stayed were...

    Dutch Ticket Barriers with InterRail

Well, that would solve the problem for the vast majority of international travelers - not for all of them. International tickets are still issued in hand-written form - implicating a missing barcode.

Why is there so much freight through Königswinter? (Germany)

Almost all overseas traffic for countries to the south and east of Germany runs through our lines - even Norway/Sweden get a significant share through Germany. On top, Europe got a common carriage profile - UK's profile is significantly smaller, prohibiting large scale freight traffic from/to...

    First Class on ICE 2

Specifically tell them you're from first class. You'll usually be allowed to carry proper glasses then.

1st Class Excuses and discussion on 1st provision

I doubt, that weekends are profitable in first - probably in second as well. As for use: Companies offering cheap weekend upgrades have good usage on weekends. Using companies not offering these weekend specials, I often end up being the only paying person in that coach.

1st Class Excuses and discussion on 1st provision

To be honest, I'm not using FGW on a regular base. However when I did, First was always on the western end. Looking at Googled images, I've probably just got bad luck...

Why the objection to using ticket gates?

As long as the original card providers surrender their keys, that's even possible with todays cellphones - at least the Android variants are able to use their NFC reader to emulate a chip. Without the help of your card provider, this won't happen (unless you're willing to spend ~200k$ on Amazon...

    Chester to Torun

Don't ask guys in DB's upper management about reasonable decisions.

1st Class Excuses and discussion on 1st provision

Indeed it isn't. Sorry for not correctly seperating that statement from the first line aimed at you. The latter line was aimed at the vast majority of anti-first-class advocators, who are against mainly for anti-capitalist reasons. -- Discussion about getting rid of first class on certain...

Why the objection to using ticket gates?

That's a problem sitting on the barrier-side of the mechanic. Currently, ticket barriers read the first NFC they get aware of, test it if it's allowed, let you through if yes, reject you if not. The barriers aren't even checking if the chip they read belongs to them. Reading all chips the reader...

    4G on ECML

Don't think so. 2G already hit it's technical limitations in most parts of western europe, while 3G suffers from the same sort of problems. 4G has no limitation to subscribers per cell - that's why all equipment that's due to be replaced for age reasons is going to be 4G.

1st Class Excuses and discussion on 1st provision

Pretty often. These trains aren't carring much used second class air either. On the grand financial view, I'm paying more money than first class needs, just to make your ticket cheaper - I've no problem with this. I've a problem with people thanking me by telling me, that I'm essentially...

    Caledonian Sleeper, your views!

They get rapidly more expensive as someone books them on that specific journey. Their contingents in absolute numbers are usually on par with the Bargain Berths (as for the cheap CNL fares: they're actually two fares: 20€/30€ for a 4/6 person couchette compartment and a appropiate Sparpreis or...

    Caledonian Sleeper, your views!

These fares are as rare as bargain berths. Some (like almost all french) even scrapped sleepers. Couchettes are largely a matter of route and who's travelling in your compartment (up to five additional people) - sometime you're lucky, and sometimes you'll receive drunken people in the mood to...
