It's not a claim, it's the result of a model, which has its own limits. Trainbike46's explanations above are excellent.
Remember that those are figures per passenger-kilometer.
For TGV (and Ouigo), SNCF Voyageurs has very precise data about the number of passenger-kilometers on their services...
This exception applies to local authorities who set up and run their own operating companies. It does not apply at all to the case being discussed here (local rail services in Hauts-de-France being tendered by the local authorities).
A company operating under this exception would be SWEG in...
Indeed, emission factors are calculated by passenger-kilometer for different categories of trains (TGV, TER etc) and, for TER trains, SNCF take into account the share of electric traction and the load factors at the level of regional operations but not at the granular level of each train...
There's something almost beautifully grotesque to these businesses pandering to the Stalinist-like Trumpian personality cult. On the railway side, there's still some margin though - Stalin had a whole class of locomotives names after him.
Having visited London with the kids a few weeks ago, I was intrigued by the fact that there are still public telephones on the streets. And I heard a tone when picking up the receiver, so they are probably operational. Who uses them for any other purpose than sheltering from the rain?
One thing...
Less steep than I would have thought, to be honest.

Just came back from a quick trip to London with the kids. We used the Underground as much as we could considering the strike.
I noticed that the automated announcements in District or Central lines trains...
Looks like a typical Corail coach of the VU subclass (compartment coach) - A10u in first class, B11u in second class. Their doors are located almost at the end, unlike open seating coaches (VTU). They look very similar to Eurofima coaches (VSE in French, Voiture Standard Européenne).
See this...
In Paris, all Métro drivers must drive manually (with train protection obviously) at least one trip per shift. This was made mandatory after the Notre-dame-de-Lorette accident in 2000 (a driver oversped and derailed in a zone where automatic driving was temporarily out of service, it was found...
Technically, no, you can’t start short or stop short on TGV, intercités or Ouigo.
See paragraph 8.3.10 of SNCF Voyageur’s conditions of sale and transportation:
https://www.sncf-voyageurs.com/medias-publics/2026-01/tarifs_voyageurs-version-05-janvier-2026.pdf
You will see a similar provision...
Those are Intercity services classified as TERs to be honest.
Twenty-odd years ago, the fastest Paris-Caen services (without intermediate stops) were clocked at 1h44. 137 kph average. Not bad for a 239 km journey on a line where there are only 2 sections at 200 km/h (~25 km after Bernay and the...
