Anyone know what caused yesterday’s problem? Heard a rumour about the rear coach.

Avanti West Coast via Settle (for WCML Bridge replacement next January?)

I was first class. There was full catering with initially coffee and biscuits, and then a full breakfast service of bacon rolls, smoked salmon and scrambled egg, and full breakfast

Avanti West Coast via Settle (for WCML Bridge replacement next January?)

I was on this. It wasn’t out of water; it had been stabled overnight at Carlisle and had been totally powered down. As a result, the water of the toilets froze. It should have been left with the pan up and the overhead connected.

Low-speed, empty stock derailment at Bletchley (26/06)

ok, then that reinforces my theory that the signaller thought the diamond was a double slip.

Low-speed, empty stock derailment at Bletchley (26/06)

It seems strange that the train didn’t follow the fully signalled path north from Bletchley from the US along BR1, then through the double slip onto the DS. The photos of the points at the derailment seem to indicate that the latter part of this route was set, as does the screenshot of the head...

Low-speed, empty stock derailment at Bletchley (26/06)

It does seem odd that it derailed on the diamond (as per the BBC aerial photo) but the signalling shows it on the down slow which it never reached. Also the points from the down slow to the sidings in a previous post do appear to be switched to the sidings. This seems to indicate a conflict...

Low-speed, empty stock derailment at Bletchley (26/06)

It seems it was initially cancelled due to brake problems and hence possibly flats. Returning northwards to the depot, possibly a false flange has been created due to a wheelset locking. Hence the derailment at a set of points. Luckily it derailed to the right between the slow lines. If it had...

class 158 to be reformed from the two sets damaged on 21/10/24?

Incident at Talerddig, Wales - 21/10/2024

Losing two ETCS equipped 158s, even for the short term, will cause problems for the Cambrian. 150s are not such equipped. If damage is significant, it may not be worth repairing them before the new 197s come into service.

WCRC loses judicial review in High Court

The first RTC tour is 27 Jan 2024, the Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express, presumably with RTC stock? If so, WCRC had better be quick and will need a very quick response on a "meaningful" plan. I'd be surprised if ORR will rush to judgement on any plan.

West Midlands Class 323 - the final countdown

Please, we do not want these cast off 323s in the north-west. We want new air-conditioned trains in 6 or 8 car formations. The 323s are hot in summer and freezing in winter especially when passing Pendolinos or Voyagers at speed causes all the hopper windows to blow open. Although very nippy...

Confirmed : HS2 West Midlands-Manchester line to be scrapped and replaced with other projects.

Not if you live in the north and would have had a worse train service to London if HS2 Phase 2 did go ahead. Also there are people in places such as Leek who will now get a train service and a train connection via Stoke to London. Previously this was not on a definite project list. May be an own...
