I don't know anything about the relocation policy but I do know that we had a driver start last year that was based in Wales. He lived in rented accommodation during his training, returning to his family at weekends.

It's rumoured that we may be coming down to a 4 day week when the current pay deal is agreed. This could be the reason for the current recruitment drive. Just my opinion though. :wink:

I haven't heard any more nor seen anyone to ask I'm afraid. You never know, once you pass your DMs interview they may stick you on the July course, but I think September would be more likely. Keep us informed of your interview. :wink:

That's good to hear Railton! Orpington are struggling to cover their work and have been for quite some time, due to vacancies, sickness etc. which is why you've probably got the DM interview pretty soon. Good luck!!

I had a Southeastern driver trainer in my cab a couple of weeks ago. He said that there are courses starting in June, July and September.

At my depot we have 4 links. A supply link where the new drivers go until there's a vacancy in Link 3. Link 2 is filled on a seniority basis, with more routes and traction. Link 1 is 'the old mans link', which drivers have to apply for. They don't start before 06:00 and don't finish later than...

I believe it has changed a lot since I started. I think you'll get your PTS (personal track safety) done first. This was only 2 days when I did it. This allows you to walk near the track, into the sidings etc. I think you go out with a driver instructor for 1 week quite early into the training...

Unfortunately I don't know any more than what I wrote. If I see a DM during my travels then I'll ask. SE have used a fair amount of their non-driving employees to already fill driver vacancies. There is always going to be a small amount of natural wastage (retirement, transfers out etc) to...

A SE DM posted this the other day when asked about driver recruitment - "keep an eye out in the Metro free paper and check the southeastern website because they will be advertising for drivers very soon." Sorry I can't help you any more than this.

Orpington is ok. The training centre is in the same building as the driver depot. There's a few classrooms, 4 simulators and a free tea and coffee vending machine! ;) Outside there is a small non-electrified track set up (about 30 metres long) and there is also the sidings. PS. Don't read...

When I had my DM interview a few years ago it was done at Slade Green with their DMs, even though I was going to be based at Grove Park. There were about a dozen trainees at GP today learning traction. For those that are worried about it, don't be. It sounds like the course has been dumbed...

Grove Park work isn't that bad, compared to some of the other depots. :wink:
