That looks ideal, and hopefully won't be stung too much with London prices!! - thank you very much

Pub near Paddington prior to the Night Riviera

Any recommendations for a decent pub to sit in prior to boarding the Night Riviera on a Sunday evening? The possibility of real ale / craft beer being a definite bonus! Many Thanks

It's a shame that the power cars weren't able to work the gala given they've been at the railway all weekend

When 230001 does run, does it operate the morning/evening runs into Paddington, or is this still worked by a 165?

    SVR Diesel Gala 14th-17th May

Ah right, I see, sorry. That's pretty poor to be honest, particularly when it is busy

    SVR Diesel Gala 14th-17th May

Nothing to stop anyone else going and sitting in though seats though. Compartments aren't for the exclusive use of one group

Flights - what time of day?

Conversely, I wouldn't enjoy this as I would feel like I have 'wasted' a day of a trip. I much prefer the 6am flights out and the 10pmm flights back as you can get the majority of both days at your destination

Best Schengen airports for connecting onto other Schengen destinations

Malaga was mentioned at the start of this thread. I flew in last Saturday and landed at 10:55. It took 20 minutes from aircraft to car hire, including a toilet stop. There was no queue at the registration kiosks (although we have previously registered we were still directed to do so again), and...

    Interrail trip to Germany

I wouldn't rely on that connection in Hamburg when going north, it seems rather tight given DB Fernverkehr's timekeeping

When did Alnmouth hit the big time?

From what I understand, getting into Newcastle by car is a bit of a challenge in the morning through either the west end or Gosforth, either by car or bus. There is signed park and ride on the Metro but the car parks aren't massive and reliability is patchy. Similar issues have helped the...

When did Alnmouth hit the big time?

It's also a useful place for many of the residents of surrounding towns/villages to drive to, so they can get a relatively fast train into Newcastle

There is a bus from Buchs (Switzerland) - Fledkirch (Austria) via Vaduz (Leichtenstein)

Most expensive per mile railway line that you could use an Interrail Pass on (outside UK)

As per the title, outside of the UK, what is the most expensive per mile ticket that an Interrail Pass would negate buying? (ie where is the best value to be had out of an Interrail Pass?) For the purposes of this, I will exclude those that require a compulsory reservation (eg TGVs, Eurostar etc.)

How to avoid the airport public transport tax surcharges.

At Newcastle you can get off the Metro at Callerton Parkway and catch the free bus from there to the Airport. Therefore you only need a Metro ticket to Zone B, rather than C.

I always maintained that the annual travel pass encouraged us to visit more and on each visit we spent a considerable sum on food and drink at the railway. However without the annual pass, if we can only go once for the same price, we would be unlikely to visit at all.
