Hi Priv question regarding Wightlink. I understand that a dated box gives you free travel (pre-1985 staff). What's the procedure at Portsmouth? Do you just get on the ship, or do you need to go to the ticket office and get a boarding pass?

Another improvement would be re-in statement of the Stone Cross chord, between Polegate and Pevensey & Westham. This would shave some time of the journey.

As the OP mentioned there are real bargains to be had. Go on the NSB website ( it has an English page ). We did Oslo/Trondheim for 299 NOK, if we had booked earlier could have got it for 199 NOK. Amazing journey, comfortable, free wifi, etc. takes about 7 hrs, but it flew by.

Join ASLEF. I'm biased I suppose, but its a fantastic union. You will be looked after. But, don't just accept it as a protection. Get involved, go to branch meetings. Have your say. I'm retired, by the way.

I really hope not, it's one of my favourite journeys.
