Hourly Londonderry to Belfast trains by summer

I imagine it's better appreciated if you're hanging out a droplight behind a steam locomotive or your favourite diesel... but at a cramped table on a two car unit, the experience was perhaps not at its best. Though my overwhelming approach is to look at the scenery and yeah - not really all it...

Hourly Londonderry to Belfast trains by summer

The Londonderry line is my local so it's my benchmark for good. Settle-Carlisle I found vastly overrated. WHL was good but in a different way (Coast vs Valleys). Same with Kyle. Haven't had a look at Dawlish but imagine Londonderry wins for sea-skirting routes tbh.

Air quality in stations if electrification curbed.

I lived in Birmingham for four years until 2015 and regularly used New Street; I didn't really notice much about the Voyagers etc at that time, unless I happened to be standing right next to one or whatever. I recently returned on a weekday around 9am and nearly passed out. It was a very...

HST Power Car into retro livery

Saw 43002 yesterday evening with a standard FGW blue at the other end so they weren't paired up at that point.

    Your 'Perfect' Train

Deltic hauling a train composed of the lounge car out of the Caledonian Sleeper, a sleeper car proper, and some sort of corridor brake car. With a 37 in tow for whatever lines can't accommodate the 55. only for use by my friends and I, obviously.

    Incident at Wandsworth Common 07/08/16

Was heartened to see a fundraiser doing the rounds on Twitter, and doing very well too. https://crowdfunding.justgiving.com/reuben-smith-1?utm_id=66&utm_term=R99XN9y69

Trivia: Stock that goes past your house

I overlook Reading Main Line East just out of the station. Regularly see 43s, 59s, 60s, 66s, 70s, 165s, 166s, 180s, 221s, 450s(?) along with a healthy collection of charters both steam and diesel, and track vehicles (which includes the rail grinder and a 37). Along with anything else I've...

The Swanage Belle, 46115 Scots Guardsman, 14th July 2016.

ahhh, that explains it then! my mistake. sorry about that lol. it's still fantastic footage anyway, which is probably the more important point.

    Caledonian Sleeper discussion

Are there now base fares for tickets? I was looking at a return from London to Fort William over a weekend (up Friday, down Sunday) and every date had a price of £79 (railcard, twin) or £115 (railcard first - this seems to have replaced solo supplement?) - I don't remember this being the case...

The Swanage Belle, 46115 Scots Guardsman, 14th July 2016.

Great video - I caught this out my window looking north at Reading East mainline about half an hour ago, which caught me by surprise as I'd not been expecting a tour! So, good to see footage of it and actually see what was going past. Interesting that it had a 33 on the back - I could have sworn...

    BBC Trainspotting Live

I've heard lots of generally warm comments from normals and the bemused - while far from empirical, it suggests this is going down very well with at least few audiences.

    BBC Trainspotting Live

Thought this has been terribly enjoyable, given that we're not really the target audience (as the sort of people who notice and correct the finer technical details...) Some room for improvement, of course, but a good idea generally well executed. Hope it continues. As an aside - here's a...

    Famous people on trains

In all honesty I probably wouldnt recognise them if they did. I have a friend who met Miliband and a squad of advisors once and heckled him though. Always thought that was a bit mean spirited.

    Passengers moaning on social media

If you dont want that account to retweet you, block them - it removes the functionality from their side to do so, or even to view your profile.

    Flying Scotsman

As it turned out, I found a rather splendid spot beside a quiet level crossing. Taken on my camera phone (so excuse instability, I was more interested in watching the train, not the screen!), but shooting at 30fps 1080p. Surprised - and pleased with - how great the video looks! MSt7ytjT_LU
