Northern - Trainee Train Driver - Recruitment Discussion

The previous Tory government wanted to charge the driver for their training, let alone pay them a salary for it. It probably wont be long before that is attempted again. If 26k isnt enough, get a 5-10 year loan to cover the shortfall , i know several do that, but i imagine eventually train...

Revenue blockades at stations NOT managed by their TOC

In theory a TOC does have to ask permission of the TOC managing the station, however this cannot reasonably be refused especially when a TOC serves that station. Station safety remains the responsibility of the managing TOC so they may stipulate things like the location of revenue blocks to...

I've never heard of key workers getting discounted mortgages. Id be interested in details of any such schemes.

    Bi-Directional Working Policy

There is no definitive answer to your question as bi-di working is generally an ad hoc thing based around a specific scenario. You do not say which station this is either. If it's a quieter line, then yes a guard may be instructed to call passengers over. However, equally if it's a mainline...

Revenue blockades at stations NOT managed by their TOC

Generally the gate on platform 1 will be locked when these revenue blocks take place. The car park exit will usually be covered those stood by the lift/stairs. Ive seen them done mainly by northern (Carlisle) but with a couple of TPE staff as well. They are mainly targeting their own trains...

Cancellations on Blackpool South line on Sundays

Yes but they have to get to Preston to work these trains. Sometimes they can be timed so they work services but a lot of the time they are travelling passenger which makes this route less efficient than others. Same reason Lancaster - Morecambe often gets the chop when short of traincrew.

DIY Manchester Piccadilly signal board - can anyone help with missing TD feed mappings?

Eastern Spur/holding siding (by platform 1) usually used occasionally used for demics and when no crew for a service and unit needs moving out station. Not electrified. Engine siding (between fast and slow) Occasionally used for engineering trains, and for empty stock moves awaiting a platform...

Cancellations on Blackpool South line on Sundays

Northern not having a traincrew depot at Preston or anywhere on that route, probably means Blackpool South is more likely to be cancelled. .

West Midlands Trains potential strike Fri/Sat 22/23May

It became 10 days when minimum service levels were abolished. That's 10 days notice from the union to the company. Its up to the company how much notice they give the public. Presumably the TOC revieved the legal amount of notice, otherwise they could successfully challenge it. They have...

Trivia: Services with Unusual Calling Patterns

Wigan does have a 00.04 Northern service from Liverpool to Preston. So its surprising they couldnt stay open another 30 mins, i know its been done in the past when the Northern service has run late.

Which Manchester metro link stations are staffed?

I believe the ticket office is run by TFGM, in a similar way to Horwich, Northern actually manage the NR platforms, but dont have staff at Altrincham.
