East-West Rail (EWR) countdown to entry into service

Indeed, does seem rather tenuous to link the DOO operation of this new line to a risk to the TM role on the mainline when as @Kite159 says there is actually an increase in compliment currently due to upcoming increased services and a roll out of loco hauled stock requiring guards south of...

GWR Diversions over East West Rail - Nov 2026

Chiltern often pulls some or all Met line trains to support mainline either for Euston closures or Wembley events, not particularly unusual

    Chiltern 165 on WMR services

It's the hourly VST that is run by Chiltern and showing on their journeycheck as an additional service. Yesterday many Marylebone-Birmingham services were making additional calls

Bus services that require reversing (except in bus stations)

Launton stops then got picked up by the Red Rose Travel 17 to/from Aylesbury diverting off of the A41 but this had some frequency cuts at one point so hopefully survives ! The Red Rose Travel 16 reverses on the infrequent diversion into Westcott village

My local route (Red Rose Travel 16) has disappeared. Certainly still running , it is something that will get corrected in due course in a regular data upload or worth flagging to them?

Chiltern MK5s Starting 2026 (non speculative updates thread)

I think something is wonky in the data at the moment re: services that will have First Class. As you say, these are very busy services and they haven't removed any stops or added a Banbury starter relief service in the Dec timetable so highly unlikely candidates for Mk5 operation, if anything...

Chiltern unit at Milton Keynes 28/07/2026

Chiltern are advertising a "Customer Service Inspector" role at Bletchley which sounds like an non operational onboard role similar to Southern etc. Fingers crossed this is the solution agreed to staffing and will unlock getting passenger services finally running !

    Post-Wembley Concert Transport

Princes Risborough is an option as many of the late trains north are going to Aylesbury

Additional routes that could justify a 24hr per day train service?

They ran STP this weekend but do not appear in the planners ongoing - anyone know why? Going to be hard to attract custom if no one gets offered them when planning a journey!

Fail to stop at High Wycombe (30/06)

    Ahh that was lucky then!

Trivia - Unexpected (and beneficial) station stops

Diverted Birmingham-London Marylebone service opening the doors at Aylesbury. A nice non stop run on 168 with a coffee from the trolley!

Fail to stop at High Wycombe (30/06)

Based on the RTT timings I can't see that an SSO was put in place on a southbound service to pick them up - was 1hr 15 mins to wait for the next timetabled service as it was running late

Fail to stop at High Wycombe (30/06)

Yes the Oxfords each have a different calling pattern in the peak and do miss out some more usual calling points. Some also have a different calling pattern M&F and at least the 1745 also has a different pattern on some Wembley event days! Keeps the driver on their toes

Heatwave 22-27 June - effect on the UK Railway

The air cooling on the 165 is very effective in my experience and I'd say it feels cooler than a 168 in my limited sampling! Looks like they've added 3 x northbound services after the concert and some Marylebone shuttles . Does seem a better plan , Tuesday just took out lots of scheduled...
