Great British Railways - First Train in New Livery

GWR has the Class 57s for their sleeper trains, no? Also, some TOCs have Class 08, and perhaps other, shunters. We could see other locomotives doing passenger services for GBR and get their livery in the future, too - the Class 57s will have to be replaced by something at some point. The Class...

Great British Railways - First Train in New Livery

It’ll be interesting to see a Class 68, the first locomotive, in GBR livery. I suppose that that stock is new to Chiltern, which is a good news story, but I’m a bit surprised that Chiltern is the next TOC to get the livery, given the controversy over East West Rail - I had thought that the Class...

Why did the Wickford recovery take longer than Harrow & Wealdstone in 1952?

Given that there’s the LT&SR/Essex Thameside/North Thameside which provides an alternative railway route between London and Southend, perhaps rushing it was seen as less necessary.

    Progress with 345 071 - 345 080

Will that slack-in-the-fleet-enabled over-haul include installing charging points, being 3-pin-plug sockets and/or USB ports, etc.?

    Progress with 345 071 - 345 080

Gosh, the first one is in service already! They’re being built for Old Oak Common services - when will Old Oak Common come into use? All of the trains will be finished years before then, I think?

Why did the Wickford recovery take longer than Harrow & Wealdstone in 1952?

The RAIB didn’t exist back then - accident investigation and preserving evidence before handover to the infrastructure maintainer has come on a lot since back then. Maximum working times, which are in law across all industries, and minimum breaks didn’t exist back then, either.

Derailment at Wickford - Friday 14th August 2026

Gosh - it must have been quite scary for the train driver going in the opposite direction, driving into a cloud of ballast dust, which obscures whatever might be causing it beyond, and driving into the ballast which was thrown up into the air, hitting their train.

Cambridge South : no parking (and local CCTV is dissuade anyone from stopping near by...)

You’d probably hate to know that students at the University of Cambridge are forbidden from having a motor vehicle, unless they can get a licence from the University’s Motor Proctor for exceptional circumstances, those being medical reasons, or rarely being a member of a sports or other society...

Cambridge South : no parking (and local CCTV is dissuade anyone from stopping near by...)

The main roads to get to the Biomedical Campus - Trumpington Road (and Trumpington Street, which you can see the end of in the video which I posted, looking down towards the route to the Biomedical Campus, which is the second main road through Cambridge), leading into Long Road, Hills Road...

Cambridge South : no parking (and local CCTV is dissuade anyone from stopping near by...)

Most people don’t drive in Cambridge, which has narrow mediaeval, pre-car streets, poor-condition roads, and very little parking in general - they cycle, walk, or take the bus or train instead. There is a lot of traffic congestion, which dissuades people from driving. Hence, cycling is often a...

Last trains to be put into a non-GBR livery, and hence/also the last trains to be put into the GBR livery?

Paint warranty length, and if re-painting is necessary. The Class 357s (in both the white-and-magenta Trenitalia c2c livery, and the GBR livery) have been re-painted because they had to have the paint stripped off for mid-life bodywork corrosion repairs anyway, so would need to be re-painted in...

Last trains to be put into a non-GBR livery, and hence/also the last trains to be put into the GBR livery?

At least personally, I think the addition of blue makes for a better livery than just red and white, as a Great English Railways would presumably have - blue shows less dirt than more white would have.

Last trains to be put into a non-GBR livery, and hence/also the last trains to be put into the GBR livery?

It’ll still come under GBR - it’s just that it’ll apparently be “Great British Railways | Stansted Express”, like how it’s currently a separate brand to Greater Anglia, rather than being part of “Great British Railways | Anglia”.

Thameslink to replace cushions on class 700 ironing board seats to improve comfort.. Finally..

It was in the original IEP Invitation To Tender from the DfT in 2007 - see Page 13: It also said under Additional Options that they may get some for CrossCountry. The table on Page 15 says the ECML Phase 2 units are EMUs, not bi-mode, with enough availability to provide 11 half-length sets...
