It is true that there is alot of siding space available at Southport, but they're still sidings, not a depot. If the network is going to get 59 6 car trains then Kirkdale will need to be expanded. For the wirral Birkenhead Central depot may well be reopened to increase capacity.

While I would love to see this happen very much, it quite simply isn't. A scheme on this scale is not going to be cheap in any way, despite the tunnels already being there. Merseytravel aren't exactly rolling in cash are they? And the dft are not going to pour that much money into a project...

The 450s at least are rather heavier than the 507/8s and given the way they chew up the track in the loop I don't think the 450s would be any use to merseyrail. I agree that TOC specific units are what is needed.
