    Thanks for these replies. I noticed in another thread that there may also be walkie-talkie contact between steam and diesel drivers. It must feel odd for the diesel driver to be driving "blind".

    Can someone tell me how the driving is actually done when diesel is pushing a steam loco? Is there a remote control for the diesel on the steam footplate? Or if it's controlled from the diesel, how does the driver see where he's going?
