prosecution threat after not presenting a railcard due to app not working

Indeed, but you didn’t present a valid ticket when asked to do so by the railway, so you did commit an offence, you’re asking for them to be lenient. If they choose not to be and you stick to your plan of not paying them a penny it will be the courts that force you to pay.

GWR Settlement Offer £256.15 after interview under caution - advice please

Whilst it’s rather irrelevant you’ll need to understand that it’s not particularly challenging for someone to work out the drive to Newton Abbot is easier and takes the same Amount of time as the drive to Teignmouth. General statistics tell us that the chances of getting caught doing this on...

All cross country services suspended 23/08/26

But (as eluded to below) what are the real world consequences? Those operators still operating privately have surely just knocked any form of care on the head by now as they freewheel towards being taken over? Why would they put any effort in?

prosecution threat after not presenting a railcard due to app not working

Indeed. In reality there is absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t be able to see every (digital) railcard you’ve ever purchased with a particular supplier, current or expired, with its number, with its start and end dates, with its passenger name(s) and there is no reason why that information...

prosecution threat after not presenting a railcard due to app not working

Any reasonable train operating company or third party company acting on behalf of them would use the details you have provided to see that a rail card was held at the time. Unless the person reviewing this case has never seen a railcard before and has zero understanding of the job they’re being...

All cross country services suspended 23/08/26

It doesn’t matter who is to blame the fact remains it seems like a single point of failure that has stopped an entire train operating company operating its trains.

All cross country services suspended 23/08/26

Cue platform staff claiming to know nothing about a Plymouth train as usually happens when it’s removed and not cancelled. At least they’re showing cancelled online so the 100,000 or so people expecting to use their trains today might have a fighting chance. It’s a little bit surprising there...

Gold Record Card not received (LNER online)

Whilst unhelpful to the OP I must say I’m surprised this can (if it eventually works) be done here. I assume this is quite a new thing, I always had to go to a station within the Gold area to get it printed on Gold Card Stock, but alas it is quite a number of years ago since I last had need...

    Northern covering taxis?

So the rule limits the train to stop with front at a stop marker rather than stop and draw forward. Fully appreciate that’s a faff and would have to be limited to situations where people are stranded and not just a regular old SSO.

    Northern covering taxis?

What is it that stops a train allowing pickup and drop off of stranded passengers using the local door? Or can’t 185s do that?

Help/advice at ticket office denied due to tickets purchased from another retailer

This follows the increasingly popular attitude of why do something if you can get away with not doing something. The railway seems to thrive on this sort of behaviour nowadays and it makes life very difficult for the remaining staff who really care about customer service (of which there are...

Any way to extend an off-peak return validity?

Unfortunately the validity is already quite generous (something the railways frequently try to change) and cannot be extended further. You’ll just have to look at a new single ticket for the return. You may find there are advance singles or split ticket options that represent better value for...

Why can't a second cardholder be added to the Family and friends railcard once purchased?

I suspect as it’s generally not a thing this will prohibit the requests somewhat, limiting it to people who just happen to notice and ask on the off chance. If it were a known process then I suspect there might be more call for it.

Split ticketing - a blessing or a curse?

Would you sooner them sell you an Up! And a Polo?

Split ticketing - a blessing or a curse?

Agreed fully. It doesn’t negatively affect the railway in any way. I’m not sure it is, simply consider it 2 journeys, the end results in your travel shouldn’t be affected but your rights would (as indeed they should) be based upon you making 2 journeys, and that is because…….. Something I’ve...
