    WensleyAle Festival - Wensleydale Railway

Apologies if this has been listed elsewhere but....over the late May Bank Holiday, we are holding a beer festival to launch the appeal to start planning the extension to Aysgarth. There will be 40 ales, real ciders, live music and street food. There are bus connections from Northallerton...

    Northern franchise awarded to Arriva.

Many hours spent at Mirfield as my home town - I wonder if Whinnie survives who ruled in the 70's and 80's until BR knocked down the lovely old building. IMHO Mirfield falls into a similar category to Keighley where there are large numbers of commuters who would benefit from better semi-fast...

Early last trains from Yorkshire to London

I used to use the 20:45 every week. Invariably I was the only person in 1st class for £37.50 Leeds to Stevenage. Simple economics.

    Uber taxis

Have used Uber a few times now. Always nice cars and cheap fare. I have no idea how the drivers are making money though which concerns me as to the sustainability of it.

19 Year Old Trainee train driver

Vacancies appear to be as rare as purple squirrels. I even offered to take a career break and train for free but most said no. (I appreciate there is an internal cost to train but at least there wouldn't be a salary to cough up)

Trivia: Silliest/stupidest reopening or service suggestions

I remain unconvinced about the viability of Skipton to Colne despite the local pressure groups belief.

Heritage Railway- which is your favourite line to be extended if possible?

Good points re. Wensleydale. But a family trip doesn't have to be the whole line - the key 'family points of interest' would be Aysgarth, Bolton Castle and Hawes. It would be a stunning preserved railway but the cost to maintain would be eyewatering.

    Prosecution for zero extra fare?

Jeepers that feels harsh. It raises an issue I was thinking about a few weeks ago. Back in the day, there were times when one was travelling into a station and something 'dropped' unexpectedly. The rule was always 'if you have a valid ticket into the station, penalties do not apply and the...

    CrossCountry Voyagers: Due a refurbishment?

I had the misfortune to be leaving Birmingham at 17:00 to Derby and in rolls a 4 car Vomiter. The Bakerloo line at the same time of the day would have more breathing space. I noted this to XC customer 'care' who just sent me a stock answer. Problem is for the fare paying passenger, what can...

East Coast free first class tickets

Same here. Nice touch after the demise of the EC Rewards scheme in favour of Nectar. Previously a dozen 1c returns earned healthy rewards....now....just about achieves an egg and cress sandwich at Sainsburys

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

I feel the past 6 months have been the worst ever - the pathetic 'all day' menu (chicken skewers/deli meats etc) are the pits. When EC had the line we had real pies, albeit bizarrely moving from being served with veg to salad. Breakfasts remain good thankfully.

Travelled on the next available train (after cancellation) but being charged.

Genuinely feel sorry for 'Joe Public' in instances such as these - how would 83 year old Doris know (or indeed care) that the next service was run XC or TPE. This is one of the biggest failings of our current rail set up. The reality is, it isn't the Trainlines fault, the XC guard was doing...

Stupid questions/requests asked by hotel guests

When I was a publican someone once asked 'what is in your ham sandwich' The reply was as obvious as it sounds....
