I edited that section of the article last night as it was unsourced and there is no suggestion that it is correct- that's why there is no mention of TfW services rerouting via the Mid-Cheshire line now.
I've had a very similar email from them and I then checked the link and they said they had forwarded my claim to Avanti West Coast (I've no idea why as the Avanti train was on time). I appealed and my claim was accepted- I've been in contact with Avanti numerous times since it was apparently...
I'd reply saying that you purchased your ticket before the "do not travel" notice was put out and that you should be compensated based on the advertised timetable at that time (I assume you purchased your ticket before the advice not to travel was given)
I'd also say that you were made aware...
In which case you could try telephoning them on 03457 225 333 to check that they have received your email and hurry up your response. I have has issues with Northern and Transport for Wales where they have 'not received' emails which I sent to them before.
Was the email address you sent your reply to a monitored inbox? Sometimes delay repay emails come from 'No reply' inboxes so your email may never have reached them!
Is there an appeal link that you can use to have your claim reviewed again- if so I'd try this and explain in any text box they provide that the delay was actually 30 minutes (presumably you checked the time on the platform upon arrival or have some evidence of your train being 30 minutes).
If...
I generally find Northern take just over the 20 working days for an initial response but once an advisor has replied, it seems to get assigned to that advisor. When I then reply to their initial response, I usually get another response within a week assuming that they are in work.
The social...
I always just select a random time and have claimed with no issues before- it doesn't print anything on the ticket (other than the time the ticket was purchased). Usually you don't actually have to select a return journey.
Personally, I prefer the unplanned cancellations as it generally means that at least some services will run as trains - for me it is usually quicker than the replacement bus alternative that may/may not turn up and connecting onto another service. I find the planned ones seem to often result in...
From my experience there are some really friendly and helpful ones that actually assist passengers in getting to their destination and others who just send people on the next train to Manchester Oxford Road without really thinking about where they are actually going to.
Another 'tip off' here but the machine at Blackrod keeps producing card errors- quite a few people at the station say that they have had them recently; there could be a problem with the card reader.
Is there any chance you can get the machines to print out a receipt confirming that no money has been taken from a customer if the transaction fails? Currently the machines either say try again or crash and reboot.
We are aware of an issue with emails from the Forum to Microsoft-based email accounts (hotmail/outlook/live.com email addresses). This is being looked into currently, thanks for your patience meanwhile.
