Friend has been invited to sit online assessment. I wasn't required to do one myself. Anyone have an idea what that consists of.? Is it similar to situational judgement test?

Almost all trainee driver vacancies do state that they may close the recruitment drive early if they receive sufficient numbers of suitable applicants. It's good practice to make time within a day or two of role being posted, to sit down for a couple of hours uninterrupted and do it.

People have had job offers rescinded due to comments they've made on here so I'd be extremely careful with what you say, as it could hurt any current or future applications. But if you are just trying to get or share helpful advice? No harm there

I passed all tests to enhanced standard at one TOC only to have to resit one of the tests to Bring that score up with another Toc. Ha ha. It's ridiculous..just have one standard and make it high so all companies know they're getting the highest performing candidates. Sigh

That's correct, the dfft is not part of the national assessment It's a TOC specific test. The TOCs that have it GTR, CROSSRAIL, WEST MIDLANDS, ARRIVA RAIL LONDON.
