    2026 Intercity Charters

Agreed. £179 for a trip advertised as a “test run”!… it will be interesting to see the passenger load factor!

Avanti West Coast via Settle (for WCML Bridge replacement next January?)

This really is a poor show from Avanti. Maybe next time they would be better off leaving the Everos on North Wales coast duties and finding something that can actually handle the grades between Preston & Carlisle with a bit of cold / winter weather thrown in (most likely an RRB )

Avanti West Coast via Settle (for WCML Bridge replacement next January?)

You could understand a few teething problems in the first few days but we are now over a week in to these diversions (and the weather has actually been pretty benign for most of the period so can’t be considered a major factor) yet the problems persist. Maybe Avanti are working on the basis...

Yes, it’ll be interesting to see the performance and reliability stats come the end of these diversions. There will certainly be some lessons to be learnt if/when they happen again.

Yes that would be good to know before boarding seeing as it’s impossible to switch sets between Preston and Carlisle (and vice versa)!

On board host - part time

I’ve certainly seen Avanti advertise for weekend catering staff (can’t remember specifically which locations) but if you sign up to their job email alerts then you’ll hear about any positions as soon as they arise.

Sadly if such light loadings continue for the duration of these diversions there’s no going to be much of an argument for future use of the S&C during engineering blockades. So make the most of the opportunity over these next couple of weeks as it could be a long time until the M6 and WCML are...

    2026 Railtours

I like charters that run onto heritage lines. Still on my to do list (when a suitable opportunity next arises) are: the North Norfolk Railway, Peak Rail, the Weardale Railway and the Wensleydale Railway).

The positioning move certainly gives you a full day out in London with those timings :D

I’m booked on in First for 10th Jan and had the choice of pretty much any seat in either First Class carriage to choose from, so I think these services will carrying plenty of fresh air.

The sensible thing for them to do would be to offer the second FC coach as standard premium if they’re not providing catering.

    RailUK First Class Lounge Guide

I was passing through Huddersfield yesterday and noticed that TPE’s lone First Class lounge appears to have finally bitten the dust. (All previous signage has been removed). Hardly surprising really given how little they promoted or advertised it.

Sadly this has also been canned due to low bookings. “SRPS Railtours regret to inform that our excursions from Newcastle to Wemyss Bay on Saturday 24th May and Crewe to Glasgow Central on Saturday 28th June have been cancelled. Unfortunately, ticket sales have not met expectations, and we...

    HST to the East Lancs

“Top men” sounds like a descriptor for a group of football “enthusiasts” and not something I’ve heard in a rail context :s
