This really is a poor show from Avanti. Maybe next time they would be better off leaving the Everos on North Wales coast duties and finding something that can actually handle the grades between Preston & Carlisle with a bit of cold / winter weather thrown in (most likely an RRB :rolleyes:)
You could understand a few teething problems in the first few days but we are now over a week in to these diversions (and the weather has actually been pretty benign for most of the period so can’t be considered a major factor) yet the problems persist.
Maybe Avanti are working on the basis...
Yes, it’ll be interesting to see the performance and reliability stats come the end of these diversions. There will certainly be some lessons to be learnt if/when they happen again.
I’ve certainly seen Avanti advertise for weekend catering staff (can’t remember specifically which locations) but if you sign up to their job email alerts then you’ll hear about any positions as soon as they arise.
Sadly if such light loadings continue for the duration of these diversions there’s no going to be much of an argument for future use of the S&C during engineering blockades. So make the most of the opportunity over these next couple of weeks as it could be a long time until the M6 and WCML are...
I like charters that run onto heritage lines. Still on my to do list (when a suitable opportunity next arises) are: the North Norfolk Railway, Peak Rail, the Weardale Railway and the Wensleydale Railway).
I’m booked on in First for 10th Jan and had the choice of pretty much any seat in either First Class carriage to choose from, so I think these services will carrying plenty of fresh air.
I was passing through Huddersfield yesterday and noticed that TPE’s lone First Class lounge appears to have finally bitten the dust. (All previous signage has been removed). Hardly surprising really given how little they promoted or advertised it.
Sadly this has also been canned due to low bookings.
