Will be interested to see what the outcome of this is. McLoughlin is appearing before the transport select committee on Nov 26th as they take a deeper look at the KPMG report. I hope they haven't overdone it in the report as it will just undermine the overall case. There some interesting facts...
Is that what they've been doing at Northwood? Electricifying the sidings? First the ramp for loading trains onto the back of lorries disappeared and was replaced by a much longer stretch of siding. Then it looked like they were electrifying it, but then the track came back up again and the ramp...
I saw 57315 and 57308 pass Denham Golf Club at about 1710 this afternoon, running about 15 mins late. Got a post up on the site about it although the photos are not my own (let down by my camera battery) http://www.railwaystoday.com/2012/05/06/bodysnatchers-in-the-chilterns/
How many are going to Eastleigh and will the ones that go there be scrapped on site or just stored for a while before being moved to a scrap merchant? Did 5000 go to Eastleigh? I'd assumed it was going to Rotherham as that's where most seem to have gone.
I see 5000 has gone this week. Shame. Travelled on it only a few weeks back. The first A-Stock to be introduced should have been preserved by the London Transport Museum.
Slowly but surely the S Stock are taking over. I was at Harrow the other day when all four trains in the station were S Stock - a vision of what it will be like. I've heard that the intention is to get all Met Line S Stock in service within the next 10 weeks. Remains to be seen whether that...
There's a diesel mixed traffic event at the Mid Norfolk Railway in mid Feb. http://www.railwaystoday.com/enthusiasts-diary/heritage-diesel-events-2012/
I'm not sure about other diesel running days outside of this though.
Agree the Class 47 doesn't look its age. Would love to see something like this done.

I've often thought this about the number of doors on modern...
The launch of Boris Johnson's Routemaster on Friday got me thinking wouldn't it be great if something similar could be done by the rail industry. Yes we've had a new build steam locomotive and the ongoing work to replicate a Baby Deltic. But what about a new locomotive design for day-to-day...
I'm spending a few days at Christmas in Worcestershire and want to take the opportunity to photograph the Lindsey to Westerleigh tanks workings. Does anyone have the timings for when they pass Besford/Defford area? Also what other workings of note operate along this stretch of line.
Thanks for all the responses. I've also found some good info on the Class 60 Preservation Group website http://www.c60pg.co.uk/The-Class-60-Overhaul-Program.html
