The Up and Down directions on the Oxford-Bletchley line are historic; the line was originally LNWR; therefore "Up" is towards Euston (ie Bletchley), and down is away from Euston (ie towards Oxford). Originally the LNWR had its own station at Oxford Rewley Road, which was a terminus. Oxford...
I heard that the chord was due to be completed around September this year.
The paths for the Didcot-Bicester workings via Claydon Loop are already on RTT from May 19 and refer to the workings as SSuX 19/5/2014 - 12/12/2014, no doubt allowing some margin for error...
The CF de La Mure in South-Eastern France near Grenoble (see link below)
Although a viaduct was destroyed by a landslide in 2010, I believe there were proposals to reopen the upper section from La Mure, but I don't know what progress has been made.
I travelled the full length of the line...
The 17.50 only goes to Banbury, so you'd have to change there to go on to Birmingham, which might not be convenient for you. The 17.50 is really a limited stop commuter train.
The flyover was never used for regular passenger trains. Ironically it was built as part of a scheme (which was never completed) to provide an East-West trunk freight route! It was thus intended to take the heavy East-West freight traffic (which never materialised) across the busy WCML without...
103 is the number "Flying Scotsman" was given under the LNER's 1946 renumbering scheme, which it carried until nationalisation when BR added 60000 to existing LNER numbers giving "Flying Scotsman" it's BR number 60103. What it certainly didn't have in 1946 was a double chimney, or German style...
Unfortunately there are some cyclists and some motorists who break the law.
Try this for one of the latter:-

Presumably if this guy had driven through a LC barrier he would have claimed he couldn't see the red lights . . . . . .
Having seen nothing about this project for ages, I just happened on this(see link below). It's opening next Wednesday Sept 25.
Since it effectively bypasses a chronically congested section of road, it should prove a success...
DBS(EWS) do the Northolt to Calvert binliner, usually three times a week, and Freightliner do the Cricklewood binliner, usually five days a week. There's also currently a spoil train from Wembley Euro Freight Terminal which is booked M - F but has been rather sporadic the last couple of weeks...
Well, I stand corrected. It may be that the original HS2 plans didn't allow for East-West to be re-opened. If HS2 crosses the E-W alignment in a shallow cutting that would put it near the existing level of the E-W line. Then indeed you would have to take E-W over the top of HS2. Indeed some of...
Why should East-West have to be taken up and over HS2? HS2 at this point is planned to be on the alignment of the former Great Central Railway which itself went up and over the East-West line. It would be pointless, and unnecessarily expensive to create a hump-back alignment on the E-W line...
It's also used between Greenford West and South Ruislip by "binliner" and spoil trains to and from Calvert, and also the occasional charter train(including steam), not to mention some Crossrail spoil trains between Greenford East and OOC.
