    Nationwide GSMR outage 19/05

What logical solution would you propose then in this instance?

    Nationwide GSMR outage 19/05

It’s what I was taught during training however it doesn’t seem to specify a time in the rule book like you said. It could be a TOC specific instruction.

    Nationwide GSMR outage 19/05

Because network failure doesn’t always mean that you can’t communicate with the signaller. I’ve had it before where I couldn’t register my headcode on GSMR but I was still able to communicate. Drivers can still receive emergency calls as long as GB is displayed on the GSMR unit. Regarding...

    Nationwide GSMR outage 19/05

Speed reduced to 100mph in the first 4 hours of GSMR network failure and 60mph thereafter if it hasn’t been resolved. Clear safety implications if trains are running around at line speed without the usual means of communication working.

A question for all passenger mainline drivers.

I don’t drive on particularly fast lines so signal sections are shorter than ones you’ll drive on but if I’m leaving on a single yellow, I won’t take full power to reinforce that I’m approaching a red. I’ll get it up to 30-35mph and let it coast so I’m doing about 30mph at the over speed if...

From FOC to TOC, any regrets?

Some good advice here. Your TOC may have different rostering to mine, but we generally spend between 4-6 hours in the seat. If you think you’re going to overshoot a platform then the worst thing you could do is release the brakes and just carry on. That’s a complete contravention of the rules...

    Starting in the railway industry

Firstly, best of luck in pursuing your career in the railway. I’m currently a driver and can easily say it’s the best job I’ve had even if the shifts can be a bit brutal! To echo what others have said, I would suggest going through your CV again and looking at your grammar. There are several...

    Train strikes and trainee drivers.

When strikes coincided with classroom training, we didn’t attend training school that day. We all signed into teams and went through previous content with our trainer, however, we weren’t allowed to be taught any new content through teams.

    Northern Psychometric Assessment at Leeds

This is good for practicing the Group Bourdon. https://www.railforums.co.uk/attachments/bourdon-zip.36183/ I also purchased practice material through here. It might be worth shopping around or looking at eBay as £63 is pretty expensive for the platinum pack...

Network rail pay award 2022 leavers

An update for any leavers regarding performance related pay and guess what, we’re getting absolutely nothing. Absolutely disgusting by NR.

Network rail pay award 2022 leavers

Cheers for this. I left prior to the industrial action commencing, so the positive attendance shouldn’t really affect me. Then again, I wouldn’t count on getting anything given what’s happened with leavers and the pay award.

Network rail pay award 2022 leavers

Hi everyone. I left NR as a signaller last July. Does anyone know if I’ll be entitled to any performance related pay from 2021 and 2022?

A career as a train driver

Well, you’re right, you have to apply in the first place to determine that. Do a good application and CV and relate everything to why you want to be a Train Driver and what attributes make you suitable for the role. Don’t be be disheartened if you get knocked back by companies as it’s very a...

    Northern Driver Training

I start my training for Sheffield in a couple of weeks. Could I please ask what’s the format regarding exams in the initial classroom stage? I did my signalling training a while back and had 3 exams over the 11 weeks with the first exam being week 5 from memory.
