L & Y Railway North Mersey and Docks Branches / Liverpool-Southport services /Crossens services on West Lancashire Railway.

Google Maps satellite image ( 2021 ) shows a siding on the left of the line to Southport; there is a cross-over to the south of the level crossing.

    Northern holiday special trains

1963 : A short section of the line from Southport ( Butts Lane Jnc ) to Altcar ( Hillhouse Jnc ) was retained for empty stock ( as far as Shirdley Hill ). I remember well, driving out from Birkdale, across 'the moss' and seeing these carriages as we passed over the line on a bridge and...

    Northern holiday special trains

In the summer of 1964, there was the 8.05 am , Saturdays only from Manchester Exchange to Pen y Chain, arriving 12.26 pm. The return service departed from Pwllheli, at 07.45 am, arriving Manchester Exchange at 12.58 pm. That summer, I had a fortnights holiday at Butlins with my Nan, brother...

Pure nostalgia: I used to go to the Southport ABC Minors most Saturday mornings with a mate who lived on Ash Street, only a very short distance from St Lukes station. My dad drove me to my friends house, we then took the train into Southport ! Happy Days !

Thanks for those. What I really wanted was the Southport- Liverpool Exchange timetable (n° 105 ). 1629554782 Thank-you for your perseverance :)

Photo of Bootle Oriel Road : The far left unelectrified lines descended to Bankfield Goods- lifted IIRC in 1964. Access through the MDHB tracks continued for sometime afterwards.

    Timetable Exchange

1629315654 I've already checked out Timetableworld; to be honest, the content is- or at least, what interests me- rather limited. I'd be very happy to scan a few pages for anyone who had a particular request.

    Timetable Exchange

The thread : L & Y Railway North Mersey and Docks Branches / Liverpool-Southport /Crossens services got me thinking that it would be interesting if we were able to exchange amongst ourselves scans of passenger/working timetables. Not whole timetables, often our interest is centrered on a few...

The Southport - Liverpool Exchange Expresses called at Birkdale, Ainsdale and Formby. Many a time I'd take the train from Hillside to Birkdale before heading into Liverpool on the express. IIRC they ran for one timetable from May 1973.

Summer 1965 there was a Saturdays only Colne-Southport service. Checking the timings, this obviously ran via the Burscough North Curve. The first and last stop was Bamber Bridge. I would be interested to know when the "fast lines" between Bank Hall and Seaforth were taken out of use for...

If you were forced to self isolate...

Confined here since mid-day Tuesday ( Gers, France ). No surprise at all. Ever since the Chinese announced the building of hospitals for thousands of patients I knew we were going to get massively hit by it sooner or later and got organized accordingly.I live in the countryside so there really...

    Merseyrail Class 777 introduction updates

Thanks for that, made my day ! I was hoping to get over to Merseyside for Easter, fat chance of that now. I can see the confinement (here in France) going on for months.

The EU could insist on much more stringent control for travel between EU and GB

What a stupid comment ! I think you are missing something : THEY DO NOT WANT TO SETTLE IN FRANCE. Why should France make an effort to integrate illegals who have no desire to stay ? They cannot easily expulse them as most of them have no identity documents showing where they came from. Best...
